The list of guys that I'm hoping they take at 27, grows thin.

Kevin Johnson - I've been on his bandwagon since January, so I'll stick with him.
Byron Jones -
Eric Kendricks -
Melvin Gordon -
Eric Rowe -

I don't think they'd do it but I might even go with Grady Jarrett at 27. He is a damn good player and more and more are figuring that out.

I like Preston Smith but I don't think Dallas would take him at 27. I'd much rather spend a later pick on Frank Clark who is similar to Smith but has beater athleticism and power IMO.

He has the tools and while he tests through the roof athletically, I think too many evaluators are over reacting to it. If you looked at rankings at the end of the season, he was nowhere near being a first round type talent.

However, I prefer him by a wide margin to Kevin Johnson who I just do not care for at all.

Drafting a CB in the first round is like kissing your ugly cousin who has a hairlip, but since we are almost ordained to do so, Jones is as good as any other I suppose.

Last year Guard Trai Turner was ranked #350 at the end of the season. He ended up much higher in the ranking after the combine but there was nothing specific about his combine performance to cause such a huge jump. He ended up being drafted in the 3rd round.

The bottom line if that the media draft analysts miss on several players early in the process every year. They use the excuse of a great combine performance as a reason for many of them rising, but in reality they were just wrong from the beginning.

There is a big difference between Trai Turner and Jones. Turner was a junior who declared early, so there is a bit of an excuse to have him ranked lower as most of the time nobody looks at lower profile underclassmen until after they declare. Jones was a fifth year senior.

There are multiple reason the analysts tend to be behind on players. Underclassman, injured in final season, changed positions in final season, etc.. Jones missed the final 5 games of 2014 and switched from playing Safety in 2013 to CB in 2014.

Sometimes they just miss for no reason. See Hitchens, Anthony.

Jones played at a smaller football school that is not in a power five conference AND he missed the last half of the season. That is the reason Brugler says some had him lower. Some will continue to cry about it but this is not a Bruce Campbell type rise where the combine flashed but the tape was crop when they looked back at it.

Pick your top 5 most likely picks for #27 (not your favorite, but most likely):
(assume no trading down)

1. Byron Jones - Maybe available. Upside is right there with any of the CBs, IMO.
2. OO - Probably available.
3. Gurley - Depends on medical recheck for availability. Great checkup and he'll be gone by 27.
4. Malcom Brown - Slight chance he is available.
5. OLineman (I'll cheat here and just say generic OLineman because I can see a high rated guy being available)

I think CB Kevin Johnson is gone.

I don't see LB Kendricks as a 1st round pick. Of 10 mocks from analysts at ESPN, NFL and CBS none had him as a first rounder.

Brown, Brown, Brown, Brown, and finally Brown. That is Defensive Tackle Brown.

That sounds like the player that you want to be there. Do you really think he is the most likely to be available at #27?

Since the RB corps in this draft is deep, & we couldn't stop Aaron Rodgers to save our lives last year in the playoffs, we need to focus on defense, or an OT:

1. Malcom Brown
2. Kevin Johnson-I can hope.
3. Byron Jones-Peters is WAY off my board.
4. Owamagbe Odighizuwa
5. Best OT available

I do not believe Peters is off our board.

1. DE Owamagbe Odhigizuwa
2. LB Eric Kendricks
3. CB Eric Rowe
4. CB Byron Jones
5. RB Tevin Coleman

I list these under the premise that they haven't met with any DTs of note, and that both Gordon and Gurley will be off the board by the time they select.
