This pains me but:
2. Commanders: Gibbs, Saunders, Williams. Those guys will help the Commanders prove that the last half of last year was no fluke. Their talent isn't as good as Commander fans think, and they really overpaid for the free agents they got... but those 3 coaches will make a difference. The one caveat is Brunell. His play could go south in a hurry and if it does, it'll spoil this year at least for them. While their free agent acquisitions are over paid, that still doesn't change that without taking $$ into account, they helped themselves at WR and DE... their two biggest weak spots last year. One last thing: they stayed very healthy last year. Can they do it again this season? If not, they might have a hard time in this brutal division.
3. Philly: They remain a dangerous team and in no way do I think that the door has been shut on their playoff run. Last year was more of a fluke than the real potential of that team. Still, I don't think that they were ever as good as they seemed... they were just in a division that had crappy Dallas, Washington and NY team in it. They beat up on those 3 teams and while they were good, they weren't as good as they seemed in the early 2000's. Now with Dallas, NY and Washington fielding good, deep teams, even if they get back to where they were, Philly is gonna find the going a little tougher. However, with a good draft and a renewed chip on their shoulder, the Eagles won't be the pushover they were last season.
4. NY: Eli will continue to improve, but this team just doesn't seem for real to me. I can't put my finger on it... but there just seems to be something missing in NY. Tiki is a very good weapon and their DL is the real deal, but their WR's leave a little to be desired and their OL isn't overpowering... Not to mention, they'll only have 8 home games this season. I don't know... this team could win the division or it could dwell in the basement. It's really hard to tell. They'll be a well coached group though and they'll play as hard nosed as ever. They went all out to fix their secondary and if they have that right and Eli makes a jump forward... they could make my prediction of last place look silly.
If I had to guess, that's the way I'd rank them... but really, this is an almost impossible division to rank because the last place team could very well be the first. As a prominent ESPN announcer would say... "That's why they play the games."
A few more NFC East predictions:
Most rushing yards: Portis
Most receiving yards: TO
Best OL: Philly
Most passing yards: Bledsoe
Most Sacks: Strahan
Most yards by a TE: Witten
INT leader: Anthony Henry
Best Rookie: Bunkley followed by Carpenter
Heaviest Coach: Ried by a hair over Parcells
Toughest team to play against (most physical): Dallas
Team with most sacks for: Dallas
Team with most sacks against: Dallas
Whoever comes out of this division on top will have been through a trial by fire and will be set for the playoffs. I think the eventual NFC super bowl participant comes out of this division... because if a team can win the East... it can beat anyone in the NFC.
