Is it me or does Pitt's 3-4 defense look much more menacing than all the 3-4's other teams run?

Pitt do alot of zone blitzes to confuse the OL that leads to sacks and hurries. Their DC seems to be able to use schemes to maximize the ability of their players. I bet if RW and DWare plays for Pitt, they will be All Pro's every single yr.

Why can't other teams copy that? Miami is a 3-4 team as well. Their D looks just as vanilla as ours....yuk!:banghead:

Pittsburgh certainly runs a complex defense that is a lot of fun to watch. In terms of complexity, I'd say it's: Steelers >>>> Miami >>>>>>>>>>>> Dallas.

Miami's base defense is still the 4-3. They switched it up more last night than they did last year, but the base defense for them is still the 4-3.

Pittsburgh does a lot more zone blitzing, but when NE's 3-4 defense is working well, it's hell on wheels.

I noticed something similar last night...Pitt's D looked..urgent...don't know how else to describe it. Their lineman and linebackers just looked wound up, ready to spring, whereas the Fin's D looked ready to react. I hope the Boy's D this year plays with more urgency, less reaction.

pitt has ran this defense for a very long time. miami and us have both recently swithed to the defense.
it takes time to get the right personel and to get them really set to run the 3/4.
i think you will see more from our d this year.i suspect we will be much closer to the steelers in sacks this year, which would be 10 more sacks than last year

Miami doesn't have the same personell that Pitt has. They really don't have all the players necessary to run a 3-4 fulltime.

Come on, we just switched to the 3-4 last year. We had to teach the veterans a new system and we also had 3 rookies contributing heavily last year. We couldn't do the complex things that Pittsburgh does. But I think this year we will do a little bit more things like Pittsburgh does.

Which makes their constant switching and moving players around more complex.

I would love to see just half the blitzing and stunting that Pittsburgh did last night.

Exactly, Zimmer should study the game tape of Pitt's D last night cause they were coming from every angle imaginable with a lot of movement all over the place

That'd be about 2000% more than last year -- a marked improvement.

Yeah but it is understandable why they didn't do more blitzing last year.

Maybe I am the only one, but I wasn't very impressed at all w/ Pittsburgh's Defense Last night. They blitzed like crazy, but were often late at getting to Dante. If Dante had some good receivers, I think they would have gotten eaten alive. Miami shot themselves in the foot a few times last night.

There were a few plays last night where Culpepper had PLENTY of time to throw the ball.

If Culpepper were at least average, the Fins probably would of won last night.

I will say this, when Pittsburgh has a lead, their D is one of the top 3 in the NFL. They play exceptional with a lead.

Pitt's DL and LBs are very active and constantly moving around to confuse opposing OL. They are far more creative in bring their SS into the blitz then Zimmer. I hope we are alittle more creative this yr but I wouldn't hold my breath. Parcell is more of the "my DL and OL are bigger and better than yours so we are just gonna wear you down until you can't get back up".

Zimmer needs to find more blitzing schemes so our blitzers are not always stonewalled at LOS.

They gave infinitely more looks than Dallas gives, which is two -- a "3-4" and a "4-2-5", both played straight up.
