i will stick with our defense.

Once again, this thread wasn't about being better, it was about being complex.stilltheguru said:and them being complex gave up a wide open catch to heath miller.

btcutter said:Is it me or does Pitt's 3-4 defense look much more menacing than all the 3-4's other teams run?
Pitt do alot of zone blitzes to confuse the OL that leads to sacks and hurries. Their DC seems to be able to use schemes to maximize the ability of their players. I bet if RW and DWare plays for Pitt, they will be All Pro's every single yr.
Why can't other teams copy that? Miami is a 3-4 team as well. Their D looks just as vanilla as ours....yuk!
I think you're misreading people's posts. No one is "all of suddent worried about our defense." The OP was just commenting about their blitzing, stunting, etc. If you watched the game it's clear that they're much more complex than us. Some people, myself included, think that a little ingenuity would take our defense to another level.stilltheguru said:ok. But i just dont get why all of a sudden people are worried about our defense just because they watched a steeler game.
dmq said:Maybe I am the only one, but I wasn't very impressed at all w/ Pittsburgh's Defense Last night. They blitzed like crazy, but were often late at getting to Dante. If Dante had some good receivers, I think they would have gotten eaten alive. Miami shot themselves in the foot a few times last night.
Chicken and the egg? Dante was rushing every throw -- when he wasn't getting sacked or chased around in the pocket that is.Big D said:
If Dante could throw a halfway decent pass the 'phins would've torched the steelers.

He was rushing his throws despite having time on some plays.Rack said:What game were you watching? Me and a friend kept yelling at the screen last night "How much time do you need?" when Culpepper was back there. He was doing the OPPOSITE of rushing his throws.
Now, once the Steelers got a lead they pinned their ears back, but for most of the game, Culpepper had plenty of time.
Rack said:He wasn't rushing his throws. He had time and couldn't find anyone to throw to. Even when he had someone open, the was off the mark several times.
yeah, I thought he had alot of time. Either no one was open, or he wasn't looking off his recievers... I think it was the second. I also noticed he didn't put alot of zip on his passes, both the almost interception and the interception by Polamalu (both in the right flat) should have gotten there alot faster.Rack said:He wasn't rushing his throws. theogt said:Just a quick review of the first three drives. My point was that Steelers were getting pressure and this affected Culpepper. The first three drives is a great example.
first drive -
1st pass play - Dante facing pressure - forced to throw early (still made the throw).
2nd pass play - Quick dump off (no pressure).
Second drive
1st pass play - Sack.
2nd pass play - pressure, but quick pass to WR on the slant
3rd pass play - blitz - stutters his feet like he's about to run but passes it quick and hits booker in the feet.
third drive
1st pass play - No pressure, but he rushes the pass. Madden quote: "It looked like Culpepper got a little too excited and didn't expect that much pass protection."
