Well, keeping defenses in front of us WATCHING each and EVERY completion isn't ideal.

Playing man, pressing receivers off the line Atleast gives us a chance at disrupting timing. Giving our defense Atleast more time to get pressure on QB if not a sack.

exactly!

timing is everything for the eagles. literally, its the most important thing, and i know that could be the case for all NFL offenses, but more so than a speedy NFL offense like the eagles. disruption is the key to defeating them. that, or smacking them in the mouth early.

like last year against the eagles in philly, foles was sacked on the first series and never recovered. sanchez is timid like that too. wake up, rod.

i would say, win the coin toss and defer. on the eagles first series, send the house and send a GD message.

I counter your exactly with another exactly. :)

We may only have to be effective in the beginning. The wheels could come off their wagon and they may never recover!!

We are seriously one of the worst zone teams in the NFL.................even Spags has gone off on this terrible zones where we just stand there and watch the WR catch the ball.

No pass rush + soft zone = watching playoffs from the couch

We can't play man well against Philly. Carr doesn't have the speed to cover well enough and the safeties aren't good enough to cover for him. Having said that I'd throw some of it at them and then more if it worked. Carr can get physical near the LOS so it could work some. But Philly lives off big plays so its a gamble.

I'm much more worried about covering the RBs esp wheel routes and the like, those quick inside slants and drags, and the seams and intermediate routes to the TEs yada. That hole in the middle both intermediate short and long kills us.

This game may be won on turnovers, STs, and containing McCoy as much as pass defense.

DE's and LB's are going to really have to stay disciplined in this one, but more importantly, the Cowboys can't leave the offense on the tarmac in Dallas. They will get run over again if they do. The offense needs to hit over 30 points in every game from here on out...no more crap like what happened on Turkey Day.

NO zone. Press them and send pressure and Sanchez will wilt and throw it up for grabs.

Marinelli isn't opposed to press man, Tillman did it a lot in Chicago. He's more inclined to use zone because it keeps defenders eyes in front of them ready to capitalize on turnovers. If you have a pass rush, both schemes are effective, when you don't you have to go into damage control with zone.

The problem with Dallas is, unless we're blitzing, we're probably going to be abysmal at press man against a team like the Eagles. The whole idea is to disrupt timing enough so the pass rush can get to the QB before guys are running free 20-30 yards downfield with their "man" in pursuit. With no pressure, press man is probably the quickest way for Sanchez to have a 400 yard game.

It's great in theory, but when your defense is lacking in talent across the board like ours, crossing routes/pick plays/etc. will destroy us with no pass rush.

Seattle's defense is worlds beyond ours right now so people need to stop making that silly comparison. They have a pass rush, an all-pro CB, and the best FS in the game. They also have great tacklers, and when you combine all those you get a team who will be effective at any scheme, including press man.

I think Marinelli will break it out, but he's going to have to send more than 4 guys when he does. I wouldn't be surprised to see more blitz packages using press man and sending 5-6 guys to prevent big plays and hopefully make Sanchez commit a turnover.

All of this makes sense but when you just got totally destroyed and sliced apart playing your deep, soft zone 2 week earlier, only a fool repeats that thinking the outcome is going to change.

Every Fox game Aikman does he says the same thing. That this team is a better man team than zone team (granted, I don't think he thinks we are a great man team).

I am under no delusions that if Marinelli goes all man on Sunday it's going to be a revelation. But I do know that we can make fun of Kelly and how Sanchez sucks and Cooper is slow and they have a rookie WR and blah, blah, blah all we want........... those players absolutely, positively torched our soft zone, lame pass rush defense 2 games ago. So if the coaching staff wants to do that again, then be prepared for another *** kicking IMO.

Agreed. Containment and lane discipline to stop McCoy.

I think Dallas needs to give different looks between man and zone coverage.

like someone in here already said, you stick carr on cooper. combined awfulness cancel each other out. put O on maclin .

I'm down with that but they will roll out a scatback/WR for Carr to cover and we're screwed. We need to be able to get the right people on the field and Philly makes that very hard to do with that hurry up offense.

Drives me nuts.

So, what is it? The coaches are smart enough so is it the players just aren't talented enough or are coaches scared?
