It's crazy that I said a couple of months ago that I was ready for the Flozell era to end and I was told that I had no clue what I was talking about. I don't blame Flozell, he's O-L-D. We need to find a replacement for Gurode as well.

YAKUZA

Not all of us thought you were crazy. I for one am w/ you on Gurode too. I am not a football expert, but isn't the center supposed to be calling out who is blocking who?

I think many of us have known this for weeks. This is the exact reason why I'm not a "Power run" guy

I posted this in a different thread the other day:

One thing everyone always seems to forget when criticizing in perfect hindsight every call that doesnt go right....

Jason Garrett see's these guys in a day more than any of us in our whole lives probably.

There's probably a reason he calls what he does. He's been around this group for three years, he knows what they do well, and what they dont do well.

Just my .02

There's a reason he's calling those pulling plays, there's a reason we pass to set up the run, and not vice-versa.

Might just be the players or not the players to fit a scheme another coach wants.

We see this time and again in this league. Some players excel in certain schemes and certain packages with certain teams and then they go somewhere else or a different coach comes in and all of a sudden they suck. One of these coaches needs to figure out what their strength is and emphasize on that.

We have big slow O-line men, what works for these guys? What gives them an edge? What we do know is that when they are in pass protection for to long they are to slow to pick up the blitz. We've also seen them open up running lanes on multiple drives and then stall out in the redzone. We need to go back and see if there is a trend or a certain package, a tell, something that is causing this.

Wade's son is supposed to be keeping track of all our play calling to make sure there isn't a trend. Has anybody called him out yet? One trend you can bet the farm on is that if we pass on 1st down we will run on second, but the problem is much greater than that...

Garrett doesn't help things as too many of his playcalls are predictable and you know what's coming. I'm still for Houck, we need to get him his players and so far it seems like we've only gotten one of them, and that's a rookie on I-R. He does seem to like Doug Free, but that wasn't his pick. Need to get Colombo and Brewster healthy next year, cut Flo and put Free in at LT (Free did well against Justin Tuck so I'm not too concerned about him) and then draft a center with some smarts and maybe groom him to start in 2011.

Gurode is definitely holding us back

the success and failure of the line picking up blitzing players is all on the C

Gurode is just not getting it done there

he's a major meathead

I don't agree with your theory here, since our line struggles picking up the blitz

but yet we still pass a **** load out of the shotgun

I'm cool with Kosier, Davis and even Colombo. Flo and Gurode need to be replaced ASAP. I hate Seattle for drafting Max Unger. I would've been very happy with this OL:

Free, Kosier, Unger, Davis, Colombo

I disagree with the playcalling at the goal line, but that's easy to say now after the fact.
How can we say that the o-line has no idea what they are doing? Can't block the right people, etc, etc...
Just look at the drive leading down to the Chargers 1 yard line.
Here it is:
RUN: F. Jones for 12 yards
RUN: F.Jones for 12 yards
RUN: F. Jones for 5 yards
RUN: M.Barber for 8 yards
RUN: M.Barber for 5 yards
PASS: Incomplete
RUN: Choice for 5 yards
RUN: Choice for 6 yards
RUN: Jones for 7 yards
RUN: Jones for 1 yard
RUN: Barber for 4 yards

So they had 1 pass play which was incomplete and 10 running plays which averaged 6.5 per. Yeah, this team can't block.

BTW. I remember thinking when we were shoving the Chargers down the field at will that this drive could be a turning point and define the season. Unfortunately, after getting stuffed at the goalline, it probably will.

I really hate these know nothing so called fans. Gurode played 2 years at guard and was average at best. He is a good center, much better then at guard.

I said something very similar on another thread, but I agreed 100% with the playcalling both during the game and afterwards. The blocking execution at the goal line was simply pathetic. If Garrett or Houck should be ridiculed for failing to score, it should be for not having linemen fire straight off the line and blow the Chargers defensive front back so that Barber would not meet a tackler behind the line of scrimmage. For instance, there wasn't any reason whatsoever to pull a guard on a 1 yard-and-goal situation. Insanity.

No one is saying that.

It's the fact that our line isn't good at firing off the ball and winning the matchup with the defender in front of them. They're better using "deception" plays like draws, which makes no sense given their size.

And on that drive, I think there was very few "power" runs. I remember several fake slants and draws.

dude, was he or was he not a 1st and 2nd year player then?

couldn't he have struggled anywhere on the line during that time-frame? is that possible?

I think so

The guy in Tennessee is going off, big time.

The guy they wanted to draft and were going to draft ahead of Johnson, Felix Jones, isn't being allowed to demonstrate his true value and talent, imo.

Feed Felix Jones the rock.

If Felix Jones doesn't get the rock 15-20 times at NO, the Cowboys have no shot, zero.
