Will Johnson vs. Patrick Surtain II – The NFL’s Next Lockdown Corner?️

Elite cornerbacks are rare, but Michigan’s Will Johnson is proving he belongs in the conversation with Patrick Surtain II as the next shutdown DB. Both are 6’2”, physical, and elite in press coverage, but how do their final college seasons compare?

Will Johnson (2023) – 27 tackles, 4 INTs (1 pick-six), 4 PBUs
Patrick Surtain II (2020) – 37 tackles, 1 INT, 9 PBUs

Injuries limited Johnson’s 2024 season, making his 40-yard dash, combine, and pro day performances crucial to solidifying his status as CB2 behind Travis Hunter. Could he still sneak into the top 10 of the NFL Draft?

- Used '23 stats here because he was banged up this year, but he is going to need to solidify his spot with his 40 yard dash. For reference in the picture above Surtain ran in the 4.4's...

I am leery about DBs coming off hip surgery. Smooth change of direction is a must. Doubt Johnson ends up here anyway.

lets see how he does at his pro day but hip surgery scares me and i bet it scares a lot of teams in the top ten.

Hip surgery? Are you talking about Will Johnson? His season ended after a turf toe injury (which I think is a bit dubious).
