I see alot of comments about how players should be proud to represent the star and play for America's Team. All that rah, rah stuff doesn't mean anything to the athlete's of today. They play the game for money and that's all.

Most like to win, but how many times do we see athlete's going to crappy teams for big dollars. There is no loyalty in sports and most of the athlete's could care less what the previous generations did to enhance the sport.

If you compare the play of the athlete's today to that of 30 years ago you will see less playing for the team and more playing for myself. It's all about me and my ego today.

Ask yourself this, how much money does a player really need to make to live comfortably for the rest of their life. Most, if smart could do it off of their first contract. But most don't, so they need that big second contract, so they chose dollars over winning.

So the next time you want to yell at the tv or type on the computer about how these guys should be thrilled to play in Dallas, just remember, they play for the paycheck, not the city, not the fans, not the owner, and for sure not the team.

It's a job, and of course a lot of times they will take the highest offer. If a competitor to your job offered you double your salary to work for them would you take it?

FA in my view helped create this. Had FA been around groups like the Doomday defense would not have exsisted or the Fearsome Foursome or Steel Curtain because player like any other person will take the money. How many chances in your life do you get to make that money?

Not everytime. There is more to life than money. In fact, I have been offered more money to leave my current job and no I did not do it.

But what makes you happy doesn't make everyone happy. Whether money is the most important thing to someone isn't right or wrong, it's a matter of preference.

Just like that OT a few years ago (I think Wahle) turned us down to for a smaller contract with Carolina, not all players are all about the money.

That should make it that more easy to watch the game with an unbias view. It's beautiful when you realize most athletes don't care about winning. The few who do need to be respected to the fullest. Not necessarily liked. Real recognizes real

A person can be motivated for many reasons, they are not limited to just one. Your logic is flawed.

There is some truth to what the OP is saying. That is why people have the freedom of choice. It is every industry and not just sports were some are all about the money. It is called life.

Joe Jurevicius did the same when he signed with the Browns.

good move.

Off topic, but...

Good because he was back where his family was from. Bad that he got the dreaded Brown's staph infection when recovering from knee surgery and was released from the Browns before he could get back to playing.

Now he's suing the Browns because their facilities were harboring the staph. I think there's been 3 cases of it for them.

Not really. Every single contract in the NFL should be based on a performance scale.

Your looking at this purely from a fans perspective. If you were a player, what would you want? They are the ones that are PLAYING the game, not the fans.

And the players should be about "the money".

They are the ones that have to live with the horrific side effects of playing in the NFL after their playing days are over and have been long forgotten.

Before Free Agency, players had very little rights and organizations literally owned.

That's ridiculous. Just because professional athletes care about money doesn't preclude them from caring about winning a game they have dedicated their entire lives to.

Most people that are top echelon in their field would take the highest offer for their services as well. It doesn't make one iota of a difference in the vast majority of those same people's desire to do a great job. A little perspective is needed here.

Very true. I remember reading a survey done a few years back that was done on the NFL players -- it said that about 50% of the NFL players did not care about making the playoffs because it was a lot more work for less money.

As fans we find this hard to believe, but it is a job for these guys and they see things differently than we do.
