Tony Romo - 35 - (Core member of the team, will stay here as long as he continues playing at a high level)
LP LaDoucer - 34 (Not sure how long we keep him or how much his age is even a factor)
Jason Witten - 33 (See Tony Romo)
James Anderson - 31 (Have no idea who this is, guessing he won't be on the team long)
Doug Free - 31 (I think this is Free's last year in Dallas)
Jeremy Mincey - 31 (I think Mincey might explode this year playing at 265, but I also think it could be his last year here if he does well)
Brandon Weeden - 31 (I think another year in the system could help him out, but clearly not excited to have him here, nor am I giving him any hype)
Tony Hills - 30 (He is gone soon)

(Mackenzy Bernadeau - 29 Not sure about his future, too many things happening at Guard and still don't have a true backup center)
(Jasper Brinkley - 29 Definitely won't be here next year)
(Jed Collins - 29 Journeyman fullback....don't see him sticking)
(Nick Hayden - 29 wouldn't be surprised if he gets cut at the end of camp)
(Keith Rivers - 29 see Nick Hayden)
(CJ Spillman - 29 See Nick Hayden)

Hardy, Crawford, Gregory and Lawrence are all 26 and under

T. Smith, Frederick, Martin and Collins are all 25 and under.

The future is bright, particularly if the heir to Romo can be acquired in the next 2 drafts.

I was thinking the same thing with the moves the FO has made I'm willing to give them my full confidence they can find Romos successor sooner then we think

This thread is so ageist. On the bright side, now that the O-line is the GOAT, Tony Romo is talking about that extending his career on the Cowboys well into his 40's.

If Romo plays for 5 more years and you draft a QB next year, you realize that you have to pay them as a veteran, are more likely risk losing them to free agency....

2018 is the year to draft a QB give or take depending on draft classes.

I don't think anyone realistically expects Romo to still be Romo in 5 years. I think 3 years is about all you can realistically except from him. Any more than that is bonus. I don't want to wait 3 more years to draft a QB hoping Romo can accomplish his 5 year goal. Drafting one next draft gives 2 years to sit and learn and 2-3 to play and give the team an idea of whether or not he's the guy long before having to re-sign him. And if Romo does play until he's 40, we've seen the need for a reliable b/u QB anyways and it at minimum address that hole.

Or we can be aware that we are playing with a QB who has had 2 back surgeries and is a ticking time bomb...

We don't want to be stuck back when we lost Aikman and we got caught with our pants down... broadaus(sp) talks about it all the time how the Cowboys front office at the time thought they had 5 years left with Aikman. .. sound familiar? !?!

This is a meaningless thread if you don't know that Anderson, Hills, and Spillman are not on the team.

Well if we don't make a stupid mistake and trade away picks for a certain aging RB, we can draft a high end QB next year to groom behind Romo for a season or two.

That would be ideal.

I'll be interested to see our average age as it relates to the league after the roster is set. I'm assuming will be near the lowest.

2 unrelated back surgeries that are not degenerative.

Because every team that drafts quarterbacks at the bottom of the first round gets a high end QB....

The guy is still getting better as a QB, hasn't even started to degrade and you're making assumptions based on older players and older conditioning.

Favre played til he was 41 and had a great year when he was 40. Absolutely stellar.

Drafting a guy and letting him sit and then he when he does come in his rookie contract is up and now you have to pay him veteran money... makes no sense in the salary cap era of football.

Romo was the best QB in football last year. Guy seems to be getting better and better.

Because we all know that we're getting the same Adrian Peterson from two years ago.

Just makes more sense to draft a first OR second round QB to begin sitting behind and learning from one of the best rather than wasting future picks on a 30+ year old running back with fingers crossed that he's the missing piece to put us over the top this year. It's just dumb.

Time to put some serious effort into drafting Romo's eventual replacement.

AP has shown zero signs of slowing, you're assuming entirely too much, and basing it on nothing.

And again, the idea that we are going to draft Romo's replacement, and have them sit on the bench until their rookie contract is over, and then have to pay them veteran qb money is terrible salary cap management.

What is worse is if Romo is still playing, now our ability to hold to said quarterback is placed in jeopardy.
