What about 2010?

He may have made the Pro Bowl in 2010 but he earned his big contract off his production in 2009. His production has dropped off since the 2009 season mostly due to hamstring issues. Once he became a full time starter he became hamstrung.

Nope, that's not it. They're failures because the players are awful people who stop trying after they sign the contract. Why blame age-related skills decline and increased injury risk when you can smear a person's character instead?

So Miles Austin's and Roy Williams skills suddenly suffered an "age related decline" in one year in their 20's coincidentally right after getting fat contracts ?

Guess again

If you don't sign your best players to contracts, they go elsewhere. If you sign your best players, they stay here. So you better be sure about the ones you sign.

I guess I will rephrase what I said

If miles Austin and Roy Williams (when we signed them) are your best players, you don't have a competent GM

better?

There's not mystery why Miles' performance has declined. He can't keep his hamstrings healthy. But that's clearly not good enough for some people: somehow he has to be doing it on purpose. (And he's been awfully good when he has been healthy, which simply hasn't been that often). Roy Williams had a good year his first year with the big contract, although the signs of his eventual decline were there. And yes, most football players are already in decline by their late 20s. A lot of fans (and some GMs) just don't realize that.

Miles Austin
Jay Ratliff
Ken Hamlin
Tank Johnson
Leonard Davis
Marion Barber
Roy Williams (both)

Off the top of my head.
And I'd be willing to bet that for many of these players there were threads where people wanted them signed long term early while they were still cheap to sign. Certainly in the cases of Austin and Ratliff there were multiple threads of posters screaming that Jerry had to sign them right away beacuse they would be too expensive in a year or 2. Hamlin too.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

So you believe that's Miles Austin taking the money and running.......and pulling a hammy lol?

comparing Miles Austin's post contract production to Roy Williams post contract production, is a credibility fail on so many levels

He took what was offered to him and never performed to the level that earned him that contract due to chronic hamstring injuries.
