Players we could have had instead of Lance

I had no problem going for Lance. But a 4th was rich for a player they're clearly not going to play. I'm all for taking a chance, but if we were never going to play him, then we better either resign him or try to see if we can boost his comp pick value.
Ok, in that case I misunderstood you there, sorry. I agree, there should have been a realistic chance to play. Extending Dak after this season would have been the better choice so if we ended up below .500 (like it's about to unfold lol) Trey could have played a couple of games.

I remember me posting something like "either way it's a win. If Trey checks out, good. If not, also ok since we're getting a high pick" back in August.

Exactly, a 4th round pick is a good draft spot. We could do stuff with it. I don't expect a 4th rounder to start, but we need them to play.

If we do not play Lance for at any point this season, here are the players we could have selected with the pick we wasted on Lance (mind you, if he plays, there's a chance we could get a comp pick if someone is impressed enough to give him a decent enough contract):

Had we not traded Lance, we would have had the 124th pick overall. The 49ers used that pick on Malik Mustapha, who tore us a new one a few weeks ago. To add insult to injury, he's a safety and we've struggled in that department. We could have had Isaac Guerendo, also taken by the 49ers. He looked pretty good a few weeks ago. You can see the other picks in the above link.
Stirring the pot?
Fans are already in an uproar over ... everything ... And can't blame them.

For some perspective, that 4th rounder is likely to be only 10-15 spots below the best comp pick possible, which many around here clamor over possibly getting their hands on.

But if you’re gonna pick the next Nashon Wright anyway, I suppose it doesn’t matter.

(That was the selection with the Byron Jones comp)

Yeah, that's a good point

Seriously I’m furious at the incompetence.

If you’re going to trade draft picks in a lost season, at least do it for some DLine help.

Jerry only trades for WRs I guess.

And even worse, Hopkins cost the Chiefs a 5. We gave up a 4 for Mingo. Is Jerry saying that Mingo is better than Hopkins?

The difference here is that, if we even now won't play Lance and try to boost his comp picks value, it becomes a completely waste of a pick. At least if he plays and shows some skills, there's a chance that another team signs him and we get the comp pick. By not playing him, we basically threw away a 4th round pick, and for what?
If it's a wasted pick then it's a wasted pick. 4th rounders get cut every year. The Cowboys had a 2nd round grade on him and he plays QB. That made it worth the risk to them.

So the question is, should the Cowboys play him. The answer is yes. For obvious reasons. Will they? If it's McCarthy's call he won't play because Rush gives the Cowboys a better chance to win and McCarthy wants an extension.

Jerry would of taken the Mazi guy of the 4th round. So, it wouldn't had matter........

Well that part is excusable because of the salaries, but at least you know what Hopkins can do. Mingo is on the fast track to bustville and was probably very overdrafted. That same team took Bryce Young over Stroud and traded away the eventual right to take Caleb Williams in the process.

I’ve gotta stop. I’m just way too pissed over this one. Grrrrrrrr….

4th round picks are a dime a dozen. We got a third back for trading back a few picks in the first round last season. If Dallas winds up with a top 5 pick they could easily trade back and get extra picks that will be higher than a 4th. My issue is that Jerry continues to get taken to the cleaners because he can’t keep his mouth shut.

That's true, and yeah, that's part of my issue with Jerry.

Well, you are wrong there because the Cowboys would have drafted some bum that was so far down every team's draft board. JJ is always looking for that lump of coal that he and he alone thinks he can squeezeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee into a diamond.

There is a reason the 49ers said they were surprised that someone would give them a 4th rounder lol. They were probably hoping for 6th or 7th. They must have loved when senile Jerrah called.

Bucky Irving would have been a great pick
