I didn't mind the Lance trade. I thought a 4th was a bit rich considering how he looked for SF. But it was a risk-reward situation. If Lance turned out to be any good, they could trade him for more than a 4th or at least a 4th.

Sure we could have used another player, but we could have solved that with any number of players in free agency. The problem is, if you only use the draft to build a team, then don't give away draft picks on projects and gambles.

It's serendipity. The Trey Lance trade looks worse by the day for sure but there is no one for one formula that X would have happened if Y didn't. Jerry could have used that fourth to draft an even worse QB or traded it for some magic beans on his way home one day. I think your point, though, is the Trey Lance trade was a poor one and I would agree.
