There should be a max of two preseason games and let's get on with it.

I’d love to see a team flat out forfeit the final preseason game and say we are good.
I dont think that is allowed, and your not looking at it from the business angle the PS games make good $ for the owner.

it used to be 6 games, then went to 4 then 3.
to get more reg season games they had to give some ps games.

Also it is the best way to see the rookies and other guys trying to make the team

Business or not, we, and when I say we, I mean the league...are losing players in preseason. 2 preseason games, add another regular season game if you have to but this practice bs is only helping to lose players.

Dak should certainly sit as the Raiders will probably play 4th round rookie Aiden O'Connell who has been playing extremely well....that gives Dak a chance to see how to play the position.

What players should not get the nod to play in this final game of the pre season for us. It could be for strategic reasons to keep them away from being stolen to a teams practice squad, or to avoid injury at a thin spot on this team. Are there any other reasons?

I say keep #33 out of this game,Mazi needs the work, but it's a long season for him to learn. One of the OL guys who we feel can be a good backup, I wouldn't let them play. Please give your thoughts
Anyone making the team should NOT play. End of story.

If it's me, no starter or key reserve will even dress for the game. It's just too risky and a game with zero value.

I would respectfully suggest that Alarcon play all 60 minutes. Both sides of the ball and gunner on special teams.
I am always rooting for Alarcon as the underdog, but he did not look like a good defensive player on the reps that I saw. He looks like he would move better as an offensive lineman. So if they didn't think he could be an OL, I'm pretty sure he's not going to make it as DL. Hard-working kid with a huge frame. Too bad we couldn't make it work.

Any player that has true talent will find a team in the NFL. If he doesn’t make it here and its the Cowboys fault some other team will pick him up

I would reference you to a one Michael Sam. the NFL engineered his opportunity and he had every chance to show case his “ talent”, but in the end he couldn’t even cut it in the CFL

Nobility and good Intentions are always trumpped ( had to misspell it to bypass our algorithm ) by true talent and ability…..or they are supposed to be

Absolutely no starters. Let Overshown(I know he's not a starter) be the example of why not. This squad is much like many other teams in the recent past, great starters but highly questionable depth.

you have a point, but the players union and to some degree the players, dont want more reg season games.
owners make big $ off the PS games (and then dont play the stars lol) so it is crazy.

Just go to 20 games and no PS at all, and instead of the current insane bye week system just have a bye week for half the teams one week
midway, and then the next week the other half is off.

I was watching the Commanders play the Ravens last night and Washington had their first string player out there for most of the first half. I was wondering why since they were playing Baltimore's second and 3rd string defense most of the time. If not playing guys to protect them is the smart thing, then why do so many teams get their starters in these games at least for a quarter or two? The Jets are going to let Aaron Rodgers play some in the last game.

I wonder, will the players who played in preseason be sharper when they hit the field in the regular season? Will the players that did not play be a little rusty? Certainly no one wants injuries, but players can get injured on the first play of the first regular season game. On the other hand, teams that play their starters may not have as much information about their scrubs when they have to cut down to the final roster. Is that a big deal since we're talking about a few players who will probably ride the bench most of the season anyway?

I like the idea of evaluating the young players to see where they fit and how they perform against real opponents in full contact play. But I also think getting the starters on the field for a couple of series is helpful too. The Cowboys start the season against a tough division opponent and I don't want them shaking off the rust in that game. I don't know the right answer, but in the back of my mind I keep thinking fear of injuries is not a good mindset.

And yet Dak gets hurt in the first game of the year?

So much for not playing PS games.

They will be rusty. Dak and the WR will be rusty.
They haven't been hit in 6 months. The first time these guys take a real shot will be the first game.
And the mental clocks will need to reset. Dak doesnt get hit in practice. He isnt forced to deliver the ball on time. There are a couple clicks of extra time that he takes that he wont get in real games.
Question is, how long will it take to shake off that rust and get that game speed timing back? And does eliminating the injury risk justify the rust and timing?
