Playoff Implications

Reasons to be concerned: Our red zone offense sucks, Miles Lee and Jenkins are hurt.

Reasons to be happy: We seem to have found our running game and getting Jones back should help because Murray keeps getting gassed. Jones is an asset in the red zone because of his ability to get around the corner and to catch. I can see dual back sets with Jones and Murray in the red zone and I think we'll improve as we keep working it.

Romo is finally healthy and should play better. Robinson looks great and should do well while Miles gets healthy.

Carter is working his way into the D, it looks like Lee will only miss one more week if that. I think these two guys are going to start doing some great things within 3-4 weeks. As Jenkins comes back, I think the defense will be playing as well as it has all year. More Lee/Carter means better run D and better in coverage.

There is a lot of room for improvement and I think we have the talent to improve. If James and Brooking were still the starters, I'd think this is as good as we could be, but knowing Lee is coming back and Carter is contributing means the D can be better in 3-4 weeks then it has been all year.

We just need to get a win this week and take it from there.

Our schedule has to be hands down the easiest in the league other than if you are in the AFC South.

We need to make the playoffs based on our schedule.

No, Packers have an easier schedule IMO.

Way to early to compare more than 1 or 2 teams.

It's too early to know where teams will finish, but it's certainly NOT too early to figure out tiebreakers if teams finish tied. You said that Detroit would beat us in a head-to-head tiebreaker. Is it too early to figure that out? Of course not. But I pointed out that if we're in a three-way tiebreaker with Detroit and another team (Atlanta or Tampa Bay), our loss to Detroit won't matter (unless it's the Bucs and we also lose to Tampa Bay). We'd almost certainly win a three-way tiebreaker with Detroit and Atlanta, as I mentioned above, or Detroit and Tampa Bay, if we beat the Bucs.

Is that what will happen for sure? Of course not -- Detroit could sweep the Packers, beat the Saints and lose to the Raiders, Chargers, Panthers and Vikings, for all we know. But it's extremely unlikely.

that lions game is going to come back and haunt us, I just know it. :bang2:

Eh, maybe. But let's face it, even with that win, the road to the SB was always going to go through Green Bay. And I refuse to think of anything other than a potential SB appearance. I'm not saying we're currently good enough to represent the NFC in the SB but I see the potential to become good enough, provided we get a few key starters back and others (and by others, I mean you, Dez and Carter!) continue to develop.

And Chicago COULD still finish ahead of Detroit. pushing a 2 way tie for #6 to Dallas and Detroit. The point is not just being tied, it's specific team(s), loss composition, etc that play a big factor.

It is possible that a tie at 11-5 COULD be worse than tying a dffierent team(s) at 10-6 or 9-7.

What matters is that we are back 2 games to be comforatably expecting a good outcome. I would guess 99% of this board thought NYG would lose to NE, and I would also guess many thought Philly would roll Chicago. Some of this will play out, but getting to 8-4 by the 12th game put you in the driver seat as opposed to being tied with 2-5 teams at 7-5 or 6-6.

Assuming this team will roll Buffalo with Fred Jackson and good TE play, then travel to Wash for their SB, and then come out firing against a Dolphin team with a underrated Def and emerging running game is a lot. They should, but they should win many they don't

Do you really think that GB has a tougher schedule then we do? Really?

I can't see the Cowboys sweeping the Giants, although anything can happen. Let's say they split, which is the most likely scenario. That means the Cowboys have to make up two games just to tie in a six game span. Even with the schedule disparity, that's hard to do.

For some reason I thought you guys were discussing remaining schedule.

The Giants have an awful second half of the season record under Coughlin. Something like 24-32. Someone can correct that, but its well under .500. I'm not worried about them yet. Lets revisit this thread week 15.
