Just for fun, I filled out who I thought would win the remaining games to see what teams might be seeded where for the playoffs. I was surprised to see the teams and seeds shake out like this:

Green Bay (14-2) Losses to Oakland and Detroit (week 17)
Dallas (11-5) Loss to NYG in week 17
San Fran (11-5) Losses @ Arizona, Steelers, Seattle
New Orleans (11-5)Losses Tennessee, Atlanta
Atlanta (10-6) Losses Carolina, Tampa Bay
Detroit (10-6) Losses: New Orleans, Oakland

I put Dallas in a loss the last game of the year @ NYG.

Notes: If Dallas were to lose another game to anyone other than Giants, they are likely a 4 seed. Two losses to Giants may allow Giants to sneak in as NFC East champ, which would result in us being a #5 seed.

I assumed a few upsets along the way, but not with the intent on moving Dallas up in seeding. Just guessing how I think it may play out.

Surprisingly, in the scenario I thought would happen, Houston misses the playoffs altogether.

fail.....

So the Green Bay Packers have won 17 straight games and I'm supposed to believe they're gonna lose two of their last five. Not happening.

It depends on Mike McCarthy and if he wants to sit players down once they lock up the division. It happens all the time...some coaches could care less about the undefeated aspect.

Even then they have excellent backups.

Simply put, yes. I think it is plausible it will happen. Oakland is a very strong dangerous team, that can run the ball consistently on anyone, plus with Carson Palmer they are actually a better team than before acquiring him. Detroit plays in the same division as GB. Division rivals are always out to beat you. It is likely that GB will have the #1 seed locked up already by week 17 and Detroit will probably be in a must win, or miss the playoffs all together.

So, yes, I'm saying it is possible, and probable. Do you expect EVERY team that is a favorite to win EVERY game for the next 5 weeks? Really? Do you have any idea what the odds of that are?

But no motivation to play for while Oakland and Detroit especially have alot to play for.

Are you going on record and saying they will go 16 and 0? You do realize that in the history of the NFL only ONE team has gone 16 and 0 in the regular season, right?

Yes I realize that.

I'm going on record and saying it. The Green Bay Packers will go 16-0, win their first playoff game.

Then they lose to the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC Championship Game. :D

I really think San Francisco is a pretender. They are much lime the Dalls Cowboys team the first year Parcells was here. They have done just enough to win, but they are possibly in the easiest division in football.

They could go 16 and 0, but something tells me that MCCarthy secretly doesn't want that monkey on their backs. That had to be what caught up with the Patriots. Dopey wasn't that great of a QB to beat them in the SB. :)

So long as theres a chance to go undefeated, the Packers will continue to play to WIN those games. Just because the Pats failed in the end, doesn't mean the Packers are afraid to attempt to do what they couldn't. It's possible that they could slip up & lose a game before Post Season but I don't see them not caring about going undefeated. The Colts thought that way a few years ago & ended up Losing in the Super Bowl anyway.

I completley agree. Anyone who gets them in the playoffs have the BEST chance of winning a playoff game. Not disrespecting them, just don't think they are as good as their record. I would LOVE to get the #3 seed and have them get the #2 seed. Or even better, I would love to get the #2 seed and them get the #3 seed. Either way, I would prefer to avoid Green Bay until the NFC Title game.

they have only played within their division twice and have beaten 4 winning teams. very impressive considering our division is also bad and we have only beaten 1 winning team.

they're no doubt weaker than the packers and the saints, but there is no reason they're not better than anyone else in the nfc.

How many coaches have ever even been in that predicament?

And I don't believe for one second that any Green Bay coach would give up that chance.

Aaron Rodgers? Nope, not gonna pass on undefeated.

History has shown that once teams clinch everything they either pull their stars or play like they don't give a crap over the final few weeks. The only team in the last 35 years who didnt follow this formula was the 2007 Patriots and that was solely due to Belicheat trying to satisfy his ego.

How many teams have made it to 15-0?

Why 15-0? Why not 14-0? Or 13-0? 12-0?

Look at the 2009 Colts. They got to 14-0 and clinched homefield, hosted a very average Jets team at home the next week, didnt bother to show up and got beat by two touchdowns.

Or, look at the 2005 Colts. Clinched everything in week 14 at 13-0, hosted an average Chargers team and lost by 10.

The 1998 Broncos. Start 13-0, play a sub-.500 Giants team and lose.

All three teams lost the game immdiately following the week in which they clinched homefield. And this isnt factoring in all the one and two loss teams which clinched early and just benched everyone.

The bottom line is that history tells us the Packers are in for a letdown game at some point if they choose to go for 16-0.
