Playoffs, none if one and done?

Heck i want to win the division and make it to the playoffs. Its a brand new season when playoff time begins. Would I be upset if we were one and done Heck yeah and will probably be yelling for someones head. Im a fan when they play bad and lose I want to yell or blame somebody lol
I 2nd this...:hammer:

That's what got Danny White benched as qb in Dallas. And although I didn't agree with it I do miss the days when we demanded excellence from this team.
not long after the team got sold to Jerry and in 5yrs the new Owner and TEAM won more SBs in those 5 short years than the entire 30yrs of existence of the old regime..

that kind of Excellence?

the 80s were not kind to Tom and the old regime..all good things come to an end..the new era of sports have players making 20-40mil per year, you cant simply bench them in hopes the next guy is better, you cant suspend or cut players as easy as it used to be..TV contracts, new era of Caps and Free agency and big money have made it impossible to do it the old way.

let it go :)

Yes. Jerry demanded excellence those first 5 years well actually Jimmy but Jerry was smart enough to stay out of the way.. Not so much now. It's a different era. Every team in the NFC seems to have more playoff success except Dallas and the 2 teams in my sig. Been passed by the Pats and Steelers and soon 49ers who have rebuilt twice in the last few years.

I've never understood what that even means. If they don't make the SB, does that mean the rest of the season never happened?...or are we supposed to switch teams?...or considering the word "bust", does the team have to disband? I honestly don't get it.

I get "The moon or bust", because you're gonna get to the moon or die trying......but "SB or bust" just seems like an empty, ambiguous threat.

That used to be our expectations but I don't believe anyone said the season never happened or the team has to disband. Some of us just have higher expectations...I guess.

But once the regular season ends, they are not the same. The team, unless it is the Cowboys, with homefield
You know in advance that the team will not advance because that's what I've seen quite a few write here.

If it were the unknown, I would assume everyone would want to go then but I keep seeing this frustration level with going but not going anywhere. Why go at all?

I think it is a very remote possibility that every fan doesn't get up for the playoffs. How could one not get jazzed after a 16 game season to get to that point. Your team is 1 of 12.

Omer, I'll tell you what got me to thinking about this. This time last year, the team was 3-5 and there was no one thinking we were going anywhere but they go 7-1 and actually win a playoff game and are 1 of 8 teams left standing and is that good enough? From 3-5 to that and still many are pissed about the run D against the eventual NFC rep team in their stadium.

I think the best thing any Cowboys fan can do for themselves is to ask themselves these questions. Am I an entitled fan? What made me an entitled fan? Are the same things that led to my feelings of entitlement still a factor?
I wouldn’t want to watch any of the season if I knew everything in advance. What’s fun would that be?

No, I really just don't understand the phrase when applying it to football. What exactly does "bust" mean in this regard?

You never watch the same game twice, or watch a recorded game after hearing the score?

true and I know a different era and we know the Cowboys during Landrys era were typically consistent.. no doubt a great accomplishment..

its odd though I looked up Landrys 30yr record he won 270 games, Jerrys 31 year ownership the team has won 267 games...so in about the same time frame around 30yrs the new Regime is only 3 games different in Regular season wins?

as much as Jerry and this drought we are in gets smashed, its not as if the DC have been bottom dwellers.. we are winning nearly as much games over the same period, have one more SB win..

yes I know the old team has more playoff wins and were there more often.. im just saying its not as much of an embarrassment as fans want to make it out to be...

Risking the pain with the possibility of a win is far different from KNOWING it ends in failure. I find playoff failure much worse than reg. season failure. Why would I want that.
If I knew the outcome of the season in advance I don’t know that I would watch the regular season, inch less the playoff game. The fun of it is not knowing and having to watch and hope and anticipate before finding out.

I think we play a few more games per year now, don't we?

I rarely will watch a game twice, but even on the rare occasion I do that’s different because it’s just one week and that one week doesn’t tell the story of the full season. I want the season to unfold, like a story. What fun would it have been if we knew in advance who shot JR?

I still don't know!

The difference is Landry's first 5 years were awful as he was given an expansion team. I wonder what the record between the 2 is the next 24 years? 1965-1988; 1994-present.

Has to do with how some measure success and if you are not the last team standing, you failed. I think that's one of the reasons some feel the need to make excuses for losing like the refs. One of the hardest thing for some fans to admit is that the other team is actually just better. We have posters here convinced that with another coach this is the SB team.

This is "my kid's the cutest/smartest" syndrome. If it belongs to me, it is the best.
