going to vegas for new years eve and planning on leaving on new years day sounds like a REALLLY bad idea to me

Thanks for the comment. Can you please elaborate on that? Will it be too crowded? That is what we are looking for actually? More people more fun. :)

I would say skip LA and focus your attention on Vegas. Having made the drive both ways many times, it's more than 4 hours. And everything is so spread out it's going to add several hours to your driving.

Isn't it highway? Say from Strip to Staples Center... How long will it take if we don't stop anywhere else?

Not because it will be crowded. If you party right on NYE, you shouldn't be in any condition to be traveling

It is highway and it is crowded. A ton of people are making that drive to and from everyday. I live in the LA area and have done it before, and hate myself for not flying every time.

If you go very early or very late you can get it done in 4.5 - 5 hours.

If you are staying in Vegas New Years eve most hotels have restrictions about one nights stay and jack the rates way up. Also the strip is closed New Years eve to autos.

Next friday I'm going to Vegas for a week at the MGM Grand. We're seeing Mystere Cirque and just going to walk down the strip and visit every hotel. Plus see a Las Vegas 51s game and visit the track.

Just spent the day at Universal Studios, was top notch. The Transformers ride was awesome, along with the tram tour including a King Kong/TRex fight. If you must go to LA, this is a must see, especially if you have kids. If yall are single and looking for something else, do it later :)

If you want cheap and on the strip, Flamingo is tolerable. Tropicana is a step or two up and is still affordable and has a nice pool situation and decent restaurants, which could be important, given the time of year you're going.

Sapphire isn't exactly rowdy, but it is an gentlemanly club. If you're going to such places, I strongly recommend calling ahead for a limo. The clubs provide them gratis, and often they come with free cover (ask in advance when you setup the limo). Tip your driver liberally ($25-$40) if they hook you up. And don't be a clown in the clubs if you go there, just because there's no point in being a clown.

Cosmo has nice nightclubs and good restaurants. A very cool jazz bar inside under the central chandelier.

I did priceline bid and got the Palazzo for $154 a night between December 27 and December 31

Expedia price was $240 on average. Not bad deal.
