Please! No Doomsday III... or is it IV?

I know ahead of time I'm going to be blasted for this, but I don't care. It is time to move on when it comes to naming our defense of a particular era. Cowboy fans are the only ones that want to tightly hold on to that name of the 70s.
Steelers fans don't call their defense the "Steel Curtain" anymore. That name was reserved for the vaunted Steelers' defense of the 70s that helped win 4 Super Bowls. The name they use now for their defense is "Blitzburg". Pretty cool name, even though I hate the team.

You don't hear Minnesota fans calling their team the "Purple People Eaters", do you? That, too, was for a different team in a different era.

No "Fearsome Foursome" in St. Loius, right?

Cleveland still holds on to their "Dog Pound" of the 80s, but it's just not the same.
I haven't heard the Bears called the "Monsters of the Midway" for quite some time.

If all of these other team's fans can understand that those particular nicknames were reserved for a particular group of players of a particular era, then why in heaven's name can't Cowboys' fans do the same.
Every time Dallas starts to show a dominating defense, there is one & ONLY one name that begins to be called out-----DOOMSDAY.

Why? Wasn't that the name of the Cowboy's defensive unit of the late 60s-mid-70s? Why can't we just let them have their name? Are Cowboy fans that inept at coming up with creative names? Why do we have to just keep attaching another Roman numeral to the same name given to a fine, very special group of Cowboys of another time?

Don't you see? After a while, we're going to forget which players belong to which Doomsday. Wait a minute-didn't DeMarcus Ware belong to Doomsday III, or was it IV? Pretty soon, the name gets so watered down, it doesn't mean much to the players given the name......"...and now, that monster pass rusher who hounded QBs for years as a member of Doomsday XXIVIII, Frank 'Killer' Kowalski!". Sounds ridiculous, eh?

I try never to complain about a subject without coming up with a solution. Why don't we hold a contest among Cowboys fans on this site to name the defense that we have NOW. I know that most of us believe it is becoming loaded with enough talent, that it is going to be one of the best "Ds" in the NFL for the next 5-6 years or more. That qualifies as being deserving a nickname to go along with it. I'm sure the moderators here could come up with a cool prize of some kind, along with guidelines for the contest.

Come on! Let's give this defense a name of its own, & stop trying to live in the past. Doomsday was a great defense, but it's gone. Time to move on to another era of great Cowboys' football.

I think if someone could come up with a good name for them, they'd use it.

I like "Roy's Boys"

Roy is the face of this defense and the intimidator/pain bringer.. I think it has a nice ring to it.. and the "Boys" part of it is nice because it also symbolizes the Cowboys.. double meaning kinda thing..

Roy's Boys sounds gay.

The cowboys have a tradition of "Doomsdays". Why not continue tradition?

-- The James Gang. Bradie makes the calls and is asserting himself as the leader ... plus he has a name that matches an Old West outlaw gang.

-- The Hole in the Roof Gang. A take-off from the "Hole in the Wall Gang" of Old West fame. This one was trotted out a few years ago when the defense was highly ranked, but it never caught on.

-- Zimmy Wuss's Read-and-React, Occupy-and-Engage, Passive Scheme Guys. Endorsed by somebody we all remember.

-- The Posse. Short, simple, with the Old West theme.

-- Judge Roy's Posse. I like this one a little better. A take-off on Judge Roy Bean.

I've been a fan of "the James Gang" for some time now. I hope his performance this year is indicative, and this catches on.

Thats the first time i've heard "the hole in the roof gang". i love it, but lets hope that this unti can outlive their current lease....they're young enough to do so.

and "roy's boys" is definitely gay.

Yeah, why not...as said above, just add Roman Numerals....if it's good enough to add them to the SB, it's good enough for America's Team.

I came up with *"DOOMSDAY CUBED" awhile back and thought (hoped?) it would sprout wings and take off.

* - Patent pending

I think it would have to come from a multiple Pro-Bowl player like RW. If Ware has a double-digit sack year, and Spears really comes on, so that they both go to the Pro-Bowl, you could make a play on words with their first names. "The Marcus Brothers", or something like that. I kind of liked some of the ones Chief came up with. The Posse was one I had thought of as well. I like The James Gang because they used that at LSU when he played there, & it goes well with the Cowboys.

Chief really has what I've been talking about, though. That way, when people think back on THIS defense, it's easier to remember if you use the names of team members, like "Judge Roy's Posse", or "Judge Roy's Gang".

If Bradie James goes to the Pro-Bowl the next couple of years, "The James Gang" would be a natural.
