that's all I ask - take one later on - but this Lawson talk is absurd , especially if Cromartie or Carpenter is there - OR the guy I really want Nick Mangold.

Just an fyi but Lawson, Wimbley or Carpenter would all be OLB in our defense....not DE's.

Carpenter is a true Standup LB - I'm not sure about Lawson - hell I don't even like Ware standing up and having to cover...

I don't know, I'm still sort of holding out hope we can get Mathias Kiwanuka in the 2nd round.

Lawson and Wimbley are considered DE/OLB tweeners because of they are both under 250lbs.

Nick Mangold? :lmao2:

He's got potential, but he's needs to get a lot stronger.

17 bench reps is sad for a player with his size.

We could get Fifita in the 5th= he is stronger and heavier then Kiwanuka. And being shorter is a great thing for NT's.

You can't just go on bench reps for a guy who is 6'6". People with very long arms like him have a tough time doing the bench. That said I still think he should be stronger.

Yes, we need Lawson or Carpenter in 1st round. That would finish our defense. Remember now, we still dont have that dominant LOLB. That is the strength of the 3-4, first your 2 big DE's, which we have in Marcus Spears & Chris Canty.
Only true OLB we have is Demarcus Ware, if you have 2 dominant OLBS like with the Giants in 80's like Carl Banks & Lawrence Taylor, then you can blitz, one or both, offense doesnt know whom is coming. Plus it helps your pass rush. Which in turns helps your coverage.

Next, remember now, we have drafted 2 top defensive backs in Roy Williams and Terrance Newman. So, to me logical place is OLB. Then, to add on top of that, you can have Burnett if healthy, when you go in time with experience with 5 linebackers. Remember in 1st and 2nd super bowls that the Patriots one, and beat the Colts in playoffs, Belechick, not sure how to spell his name, but top coach with Patriots, would sometimes play 5 to 6 linebackers, to confuse teams offensively.

So, to me, it would look like this Defensive, A DOMINANT DEFENSE!!!!!!!!!!!!
LDE Marcus Spears Nose Tackle J Fergueson RDE Chris Canty
Coleman (thin here) Johnson Greg Elllis
OLB B Carpenter (Lawson) MLB's James-Akin, ROLB Ware
Singleton Shane-Fowler backups (Burnett-backup)
LeftCB Newman FS Davis-Coleman SS R Williams RCB A Henry
Slot Cover A Glenn Berauit Berauit Reeves

Big Mario Williams did 35 and Ray Edwards had 30 as well.

How much shorter can their arms be?

I watched Kiwanuka play twice this year. He was a very good pass rusher, but when you looked at him he seemed built much more like a basketball player. His arms were long and skinny. I wouldn't have thought he was a DE if I hadn't known any better. He plays strong though. Either way, I don't see him fitting in our 3-4.

Sorry...I prefer Winston Justice if he slides to the Boys.

No one bashed our C play this past season more than me. I agree that its a huge problem but I will concede that BP thinks its fixed because he made no effort to sign Bentley and he resigned Gurode with the explicit intent of him competing at C and C only.
So hate to burst your bubble a week early but we're not drafting Mangold. First, Mangold is almost exactly the same player AJ was coming out of college, about the same dimensions too. If we drafted Mangold, we'd have 3x C's on our roster....that'd be ridiculous.

I think we like Wimbley an awful lot....I think Carpenter is the best pick we could make...Lawson is the most exciting pick we could make...or I could see a trade clear out of the first round and take someone like the dude from UTEP.

I think the recent rash of interior OL flops picked in the late 1st and early 2nd would be unquestioned reason NOT to pick Mangold

Mangold is rated no higher than Jeff Faine (flop), Al Johnson (pretty close to flop), Andre Gurode (ditto) and last years 1st rd flop Chris Spencer

Mangold is a better prospect than Al Johnson was. Johnson was considered by many to be a reach.

Secondly, Mangold will not be a Cowboy, barring some major dealing....

Johnson was unable to bulk up before this season bec. of his injury...he has supposedly bulked up already.

By this line of thinking Derrick Johnson would be a Cowboy instead of DeMarcus Ware. I trust Ireland, you should too. They have a few more resources at their disposal than we as shadetree GMs do.
