Last year, at the age of 56 was the first time in my life I'd ever been affected by poison ivy. I already have it again this year.
What a horrible mistake of nature. It's not bad enough that it itches like nothing I've ever felt before, but just when you think you know where on your body it is, it spreads to somewhere else entirely. Not only that, but it can pop up in a new place days after it initially manifested.
Then, to makes matters worse, you never know exactly when you contracted it, so you don't know where you got it, or how many things you've spread the oil to, and the oil can stay on objects for literally years, just waiting to get you again.
Any advice from anyone who's used to this plague and learned how to treat it?

Do they sell that soap in stores? I had some cream that's made for poison ivy, but when I put it on my neck it made the itching literally at least 3 times worse, so I threw it out.

That's not poison ivy. The @daboyzruleperiod put a root on you. You have to give her ten likes then spin around three times.

You can order lye soap online but that Grandma's brand can be bought in a Cracker Barrel restaurant gift shop. That lotion can be found in any drug store.

I found the soap on eBay, but I don't wanna wait a week for it if I don't have to, thanks! So far, the only thing I've found that soothes it at all is hand sanitizer. Alcohol and aloe.

Pour rubbing alcohol on it. It helps break down the oils and makes it go away faster.

My foreman uses bleach, but that doesn't seem like the smartest thing.

Apple cider vinegar


Mis one part acv and one part water in a spray bottle. Mist the areas 3-4 times a day. The vinegar helps dry out the urushiol.

You drink this. It probably won't cure the rash, but it will help you forget about it.

I don’t use bleach simply because while
It helps dry up the poison Ivy. Bleach like that can irritate the skin by itself.

Hard to beat Calamine lotion, but... I used aloe vera gel the last time I was attacked by poison ivy. Worked well.

It is even harder to beat either Calamine lotion or aloe vera in combination with a hot tub and an adult beverage.

Calamine is definitely the best for
Mitigating the symptoms.

A hot tub??? Hot water intensifies the itch tenfold for me.

I've had many rough bouts with poison ivy over the years until i came across this stuff, Tecnu. It is more a preventative measure where you apply soon after doing yard work when you think you may have come in contact with it. highly recommend as it's been effective for me. also, i suggest you do not use the same clothes you used prior being as you mentioned, the oils can remain imbedded for years. simply just wearing clothes, even after being washed, and not even doing yard work can cause it to reemerge. hope this helps

You lucky dog! I had gotten into some about 8 years ago. I'd scratch all around it to appease my mind, but sometimes I'd scratch on it. Better than sex is all I can say. Once the plant learned how much I enjoyed it, it left.
