Poll: Should Jerry Hire a GM or not?

I think the real question is, will Jerry make the same mistakes he made in the past, since everyone thinks Phillips is a pushover.

I think the answer is no. Phillips has already brought his family on board. He's not going to get pushed around like Dave "Flanders" Campo. There may be another picnic before all is said and done.

I voted ja, but not because I don't like or support him; I love Jerry the owner, I just think the team would be better served by an experienced and proven GM.

But this is just pre-training camp banter, not gonna happen whilst he has a pulse.

No

why, i think the way we have been doing things the last 4 years works. I thnk Jerry is allowing Stephen to do alot of the GM things, and just gives his say so here or there.

Believe me, I hope you're right. I understand the draft effort could have been shared and Jerry (and Parcells) has said this is so in the past. But Jerry has to understand the perception of the media and fans that he is in control. If your theory is correct, he could save himself (and the fans) so much grief if he would just announce Ireland as the GM and continue on business as usual. But no, Jerry is Jerry and he will do what he does to prove that the media and naysayers are wrong and that he is a legit NFL GM. It's been 10 years and counting...
Why would he care if a few fans and media think he's "running the show?" Is there some sort of prize for appeasing this small faction of fans?

His ego will aways trump the best interests of the team. Apparently, there's over 500 men who can coach the Cowboys but only one can be GM. Guys like Stephen and Ireland are around to immunize him from criticism should something go wrong. That way, we're never quite sure who was responsible for which screwup. Very clever, Jer.

A few fans and media? Keep believing that, my friend. The facts are the number of wins and losses after Jimmy Johnson left and Jerry Jones took over the player evaluation side of the organization in 1994. 83 wins, 93 losses and no playoff wins since January of 1997. No one knows for sure whether the way things are run today in the organization is really any different from the way things were done in 1995. The defense of Jerry that "he's learned from Parcells and things are different" is nothing but hope at this point. But again, I really hope you're right and I'm praising your clairvoyance during and after next season.

Well, Jerra bought and paid for the team...so?

He does not have a good track record after Jimmy, but I would suppose that trying to learn how to run a pro football team would take a huge learning curve. So, as other have said, hopefully he is on the high side of that curve now. However, one thing that you cannot dismiss is Jerra's pashion and love of his football team...he's driven like no other owner!

Now, I think he's OK as a GM because I have no other choice but to like it...but man oh man, I wish he would not speak in public!!

:D (fingernails on a chalkboard)!!

Wasn't it Jimmy Johnson that didn't want Troy Aikman? Gosh, I wonder how many Super Bowls Jerry would have had if he'd let Jimmy Johnson control the personnel decisions. My guess is zero.

Well with Bill Parcell's gone.. he is a somewhat of a unpredictable wild cowboy... he listened to Bill because Bill knows football.... thats over.... he will hear Wade but he wont necessarily listen

If we have ANOTHER decade of no playoff wins... then maybe he will hire a GM

Jerry should stay in charge, he is a very good GM, IMO.

What Bill and Jeff has said has carried a lot of weight with Jerry, but make no mistake, Jerry is in charge of all aspects of this team.

Your facts are wrong. Since Jimmy left in 1994, how can you only include wins and losses since Jan of 1997? Maybe because that's the only way stats fit your argument??

Now that is what I call an indictment!

You will live a long and prosperous life, grasshopper!

:D

He should hire one and give him the name of "whatever" who cares, just call him his assistant, and then Jerry can retain the name but under closed doors, this assistant will be making all the GM moves. That way Jones keeps his ego in tact.

Jones had some bad drafts and some good ones, thus I think a new GM is needed.

I love this idea, but I don't think Jerry will do it because Jones' ego get him where he is today.

If this question was asked during late 90s, then I would have said yes but at this moment, with years of experieces (both good and bad), I really think Jerry Jones learned to be a decent GM.

If Scott Pioli becomes available for some strange reason, yes.

Other than him I don't see a GM out there who has done a better job than Jerry is already doing.

A GM is just one more person who can be handcuffed. Jerry's a gambler as a GM and I like that.

Now if you ask if Jerry ought to go after the best best Scouting directors I will be on board extra fast.

I say yes because of the success of the teams that have general managers. I believe Jimmy Johnson would be a good General Manager.

So, how many times have seen Aldo Nova in concert?
