I said yes, he could always say the stress of a HC position was too much

You know me BDC. Curiosity and the cat and all that. I kept seeing the customary, "Well, Wade Phillips will be back as the DC!!!!11!" posted in threads here and there and I couldn't resist posting a poll.

I'm a baaaaaaaad boy.
Hey you never know the temp of the water unless you dip your toe in. :D

If Jerry Jones were to hire another head coach, for example, Mike Shanahan, do you believe that Wade Phillips would accept a demotion to become the team's defensive coordinator if he were offered the position?

Actually, I'd like to see it happen. But it's really really unlikely that Wade would accept it.

I'm curious if it's ever even happened in the NFL. Has a head coach ever stayed on with the same team as a coordinator the year following his dismissal? I can't think of a single instance.

The closest I can get is Campo's return, but that was with years in between...and even that was uncomfortable.

Wassup Erik! Hope that you and yours are doing well. :)

I've asked myself the same thing and the reasoning behind it eludes me. How this option keeps getting batted around from thread-to-thread amazes the heck out of me. It's like watching bad reality television. Of course, I consider virtually all reality television bad, so my reasoning could be somewhat skewered. ;)

I think Wade is way too proud to stick around as a defensive coordinator, and I don't even think that is an option - especially since Garrett looks to be back next year.

I figure that Dallas sniffs around some of the old San Diego coaches who might be available and have history with Wade. They might even take a look at someone like Ted Cottrell. And if they don't like what they see, I figure they'll just bump Grantham or Campo, with Grantham probably getting first shot.

Bold-->Exactly. Add:
  • He's not hurting for cash
  • He's going to be hired as a defensive coordinator somewhere else (book it)
  • He's going to get paid when he latches onto another team
Maybe I'm missing something.
