Pollard Myth

Zeke stans, in effort to prop him up, have often argued Pollard is an all-or-nothing RB that buoys negative runs with the occasional big play.

I didn't realize that Pollard had over 700 yards rushing. I can't believe we haven't given him more carries, especially while Zeke has been hobbled with 3.2 ypc average the last 8 games.

Everyone points to the Qb but it is killing this team in so many ways that our starting RB can't move.

Some times I wonder if some of you all just started watching football this week. What makes you think you can feed Tony Pollard 20 carries a game?

I will never forget the 3 game stretch Julius Jones had his rookie year. I think it was around Thanksgiving time. Anyway...he was awesome for that stretch of games and everyone thought we found the next Emmit. That turned out to be the best stretch of football he played. We passed up on Steven Jackson thinking Julius Jones could be just as impactful. We were WRONG. Steven Jackson was much better suited to carry the load. A couple of good runs does not mean you can carry the load!!!

You’re way over thinking this.

Zeke is bad at football right now.

If Tony Pollard doesn’t play well he’d just be playing like Zeke at this point. What do you have to lose?

Yup. We don't know how good Pollard would've been against Arizona with only 3 carries who can properly evaluate his play.

I hope it's because we're careful with using him too much because of his injuries but he needs at least 20 carries in the rematch against the Cards.
Well...i did see a few Zeke runs where I wished those rushes were given to Pollard as they would have been nice gainers.

Zeke should have not been on the field the last 8 weeks or so until he was healthy. That would have been the smart thing to do, of course, we cater to the player and hurt the entire organization. He could have come back for the playoffs and we would have probably won a game or two more that we didn't. Our offense would have been better.

It really just pisses me off when i think about it.

Oh Pollard would’ve outrushed Zeke bigtime this year had he got Zekes touches.

He’s 200 yards behind him, missed a game, and gets way less opportunities.

He’d out rush Zeke by quite a bit with Zekes volume.

I think you will see a lot more Pollard in playoffs
This is truly, TRULY, the only way we can win in the playoffs. I'll go ahead and say it. If Zeke continues being the starter and getting a majority of the reps, we lose. It's not even a bold statment at this point. Zeke is toast at this point and that O-line can open bus lanes for him this late in the season.

Lpollard may not be the ideal back who can carry the ball 25 times a game. But he's the most productive back on this team and deserves more than 3 carries in a game where Zeke averages 1.9 yards a carry. Pollard can run between the tackles fine, and he is clearly better running to the outside as well as catching the ball. Zeke is really a short yardage and goal line guy who can block like a beast.

Christian McCaffrey at his peak usage (rushing) only averaged 18 carries per game.

Pollard doesn't need to be a "bell cow." If we only gave him 14-16 carries and 5 receptions a game our offense would likely be markedly better.

Outside of Henry, there not a single other RB in the league that averages more than 20 carries per game. Folks got their minds stuck in the 90s-early 2000s.

Zeke is a glorified power back that is non-threat to flip the field. The following table indicates the number of "BIG" runs each back has. A "BIG" run is any run of 20+ yards.

Here's the 2021 leaders:

And.....fpr those that will attempt to claim the lack of big plays is due to his knee injury, here are the 2020 leaders:

What is it with this fanbase and the backup QB and RB? How many of us heard calls for Hambrick, Wiley, Barber, Choice, Pollard, Anderson, Bickerstaff, Cason, Michael, Randle etc etc...only to see it happen and watch them let us down? I'm not saying to snub the guy but he's never carried a full load and I'm not convinced he can. Pretty sure he's already playing in his ideal role. Problem is the OC isn't doing much to get him involved.

That is a surprising stat. I knew it wasn’t nearly as bad as many believe but I also never would have imagined it being that good.

It's not at all surprising to me. That's not to discount Pollard, but his stats should be better than Zeke's due to the way he plays. In saying that, even accounting for the difference in how they are used, Zeke's are pretty bad recently, Pollard's are exceptional.

I am not surprised at his performance relative to Zeke but I am surprised he is #1 among all RBs.
