QB. Need a third guy to develope. mcgee is ok as backup right now

FB. We need to know Fiametta is going to return to form or find better.

RB. Set with Murray and Jones

TE. Witten and Phillips and find a third to develope.

WR. Keep robinson.

OT. Flip them and see how Parnell developes

OG. Keep Holland and get two new guards either draft or FA.

C. Work Killa hard to see if he can become the man; but look around as well

with luck only two new starters plus Killa

DL. IF we upgrade spencers position stand pat. If we do not we need to get a pass rushing DE.

OLB. Spencer is the key if we keep him; if not we need a pass rusher that can make teams pay for Doubling Ware.

ILB. Convince Brookings to become a coach. Plug Carter in next to Lee.

CB. Need one new one either FA or draft. Keep Scandrick and Jenkins.

Safety. With everything else going on try and keep Elam.

So we need two Guards, either a DE or OLB, and a CB.

all those upgrades must be substantial and must be this year.

Like the post.. only thing i would change is that we desperately need a quality NT and i would make DL/OL top proiorities in the draft this year, with DB being right up there as well.

Also, who is Brookings?

Explain to us what a "quality NT" does in a 3-4 defense, because the calls to replace Ratliff are loud and proud but never backed up by football talk.

We need something different at the S position. We need more foot-speed patrolling the middle.

I like most of your thinking,However Jerry just gave money to Spears and Hatcher, De i wouldnt and don't think Jerry will. I hink we need to be players somewhat in Fa , at least a G ,who could step in and play and a ILB alongside,Lee and Carter. That also would be my third round pick. I'm going CB,OLB,ILB,G FIRST FOUR PICKS, with switching OLB AND CB, depending who's there.

Well, i've been one that's been calling for it for at least a year or two now, and its very simple as to why i think it needs to be done.

Far too often, you hear people complain about our pass rush.. and the thing you always hear associated with that is our OLB's.. mainly Spencer.

However, when you look at our DL, we rarely, if ever, get any kind of push on the inside to collapse the pocket straight on and make the QB throw the ball with hands in his face or scramble out of the pocket. Our OLB's Ware and Spencer are good at utilizing the outside rush and getting around their man, but far too often when they do, all the opposing QB has to do is take a step forward into the gaping pocket they have to work with in front of them.

To put it simply, Ratliff gets pushed back almost every time, and we need a guy in the middle there who can get some kind of a consistent push to collapse the pocket on opposing QB's so that they are either have some pressure in their face when trying to make a throw, or they are forced to scramble out more often. As it is right now, like i said, we get very little to no interior pressure right now, and that has to change if we want to become a better pass rushing team.

That being said, i don't agree with those saying Ratliff is overrated or sucks or whatever that jazz is about. I think he's simply being asked to do something that isn't a strength of his game. I know its been reported that he doesn't want to play DE in a 34, but i really think if put there, and he gave it a shot, he would flourish at that position. He still is a very strong dude, and quick enough to provide a pass rush from the end position, and he would do much better not facing a double team from two guys who outweigh him by a total of 60-80 pounds every single play.

We have drafted Nagy and Arkin for guards, however I dont think the answer to center is on the team right now. Depth is but not a starter. I would like to see a FA move there.

I think Kowalski is more of an answer than Nagy or Arkin at this point, unless you're suggesting we could start him at one of the OG positions next season.

i agree with you for the most part.

we need another pass catching tight end.

we need starters on the oline. i like the depth on the oline at least.

i think we should let LROB go and draft a later receiver and go with the PS guys.

contrary to popular belief, i agree with you we can upgrade the fullback position but i wouldn't be disappointed with tony f.

I think he's being asked to do too much. We're asking an undersized guy to take on double-teams to stop the run and provide an interior pass rush. It's physically a lot to ask of a smaller player given the amount of snaps he plays. He's still a good player. He simply needs help.

We've gotta draft a new OLine starter in the first 3 rounds for sure. You gotta think they will give Arkin every chance to win a spot due to his draft position so we're looking at center and the other guard spot. I think Kosier is done, the injuries piled up on him this year. We'll probably keep one veteran (Holland or Dockery) just to have in case these youngsters don't cut it...which would be bad news.

First three draft picks need to be defense, defense, and OLine (in any order). I really don't trust Jerry drafting after the 3rd round...it will end up being some small school project.

Yup, there's a reason that there is a kind of standard for 34 defensive linemen in regards to size.

Typically, your DE's are around the 300 lbs range, give or take 10 pounds, while typically your NT's are bigger guys in the 320-350 range.

I think we need to upgrade Elam if at all possible.

We need more of an impact player back there next to Sensy.

I'd get rid of all these guys:

Kitna
Ogletree
Buehler
Dockery
Costa
Holland
Coleman
Geathers
Spencer
Brooking
James
Newman
Ball
Walker
Elam

And these guys may be next:

Butler
Kosier
Chapas
Bennett
Sensabaugh

And I honestly don't care if they still have a contract. None of the first group of players, in my opinion, are contributing to the team in a way that makes the team better. All of them can be replaced, maybe not right away, but I don't care anymore. If we're getting rid of guys that don't contribute, are worn out, lazy, don't care, or may never reach their potential, might as well get rid of them all right now.

They will keep Sense. especially with the recent contract. Elam is more iffy but I think in the end they will give him one more year if he is willing to do it.

long list. but i understand your frustration. there was a time we thought guys like butler, bennett, ogletree could be young guys who would develop into starters. they all seem to have hit the wall.

that being said, from your list i would keep victor butler, kosier, geathers as backups.

Out of those two groups, i'd keep (Mario?) Butler, Bennett, Spencer, Elam, Coleman, Geathers, James, Ball, and Dockery. The rest can go.

Doesn't it just make you sick starting this thread on January 3rd? I'm so not over this loss. How the hell did we get from 7-4 to 8-8?
We should be talking about the Falcons right now and if the Lions have a chance to upset the Saints to set up a return trip for us to SF!

Oh well back to this miserable REALITY of ours........

I want to go after 2-3 super high quality/high priced FAs. Don't know how many if any will be availible, but we should go after and secure as many as practicable.

It's been my NFL viewing experience that the super blue chip signings almost always work. Now let me qualify this......I'm not talking about a marginable guy who got over paid, or a head case who never should have been given a ton of cash.
I'm talking about legit All-Pro, higher character guys like Nnamdi and Peppers in recent years.

Missing out on Nnamdi was IMO the difference between 8-8 and perhaps 10-6 for us this season. It was a killer blow, a crushing blow. He was just what this defense needed.

IF there's another Nnamdi, an OG, an OC, an elite pass rusher availible in FA.......we need to persue them and sign them.

Then we will have the lattitude to trade down in the draft, pick up a couple extra day two picks and do what always play out best in the long run......draft to our board.
