Out of those two groups, i'd keep (Mario?) Butler, Bennett, Spencer, Elam, Coleman, Geathers, James, Ball, and Dockery. The rest can go.

i think they already let butler go yesterday.

Explain to us what a "quality NT" does in a 3-4 defense, because the calls to replace Ratliff are loud and proud but never backed up by football talk.

go back and rewatch the last game
there were several times where NBC highlighted how rat was getting no pressure despite being singled
they made the point that this had been happening all night and this is why giants could easily double ware

Doesn't it just make you sick starting this thread on January 3rd? I'm so not over this loss. How the hell did we get from 7-4 to 8-8?
We should be talking about the Falcons right now and if the Lions have a chance to upset the Saints to set up a return trip for us to SF!

Oh well back to this miserable REALITY of ours........

I want to go after 2-3 super high quality/high priced FAs. Don't know how many if any will be availible, but we should go after and secure as many as practicable.

It's been my NFL viewing experience that the super blue chip signings almost always work. Now let me qualify this......I'm not talking about a marginable guy who got over paid, or a head case who never should have been given a ton of cash.
I'm talking about legit All-Pro, higher character guys like Nnamdi and Peppers in recent years.

Missing out on Nnamdi was IMO the difference between 8-8 and perhaps 10-6 for us this season. It was a killer blow, a crushing blow. He was just what this defense needed.

IF there's another Nnamdi, an OG, an OC, an elite pass rusher availible in FA.......we need to persue them and sign them.

Then we will have the lattitude to trade down in the draft, pick up a couple extra day two picks and do what always play out best in the long run......draft to our board.

Nmadi would not have made the difference in any of our losses.
The guy was way over paid for what he did this year.

I like that list burm, except I'd like to get a very good center if at all possible. Corner is the one position that I feel like we MUST get better at, with guard close behind.

Carter and Lee at ILB will make a big difference in coverage on RB's and TE's... which will make a big difference to the whole defense.

I'm surprised you feel that way. Nnamdi is a very good CB and was one for the eagles this season. Now the egales as a team and more specifically a defense failed.

But that's not Nnamdi's failing.

He absolutely would have made a difference for us this season. Just off the top of my head, I'm guessing both Giants games and the Cards.

Not to mention Rat's play seems to tail off at the end of EVERY season. The only successful 3-4 I can think of without a massive nose tackle is the Texans defense and that's probably because they have a host of pressure players to surround Cody with.

with our lack of pass rush, would not have made any difference at all; he had a poor year anyway. Over rated who was no longer able to hide in Oakland

If Parnell is all that why don't we have him battle Free for the RT position and loser moves into OG?

Best 5 to the OL. If Parnell is all that he needs to play! This will instantly solve one of the OL problems.

Fixed it. :D

Sensy is aa better player than Elam, period.

Elam only has tackling over sensy...and even that is debatable.

Sensy flies to the LOS, to stop guys short of the marker, makes plays on the ball(every now n then) and is solid overall

Move him back to SS, and get a FS by any means necessarily..Micheal Griffin and Sensy? Awesome Back field

Ratliff is not NT material. I think he's a classic 4-3 DT. Reminds me a little of Lett. Guy is playing 50+ pounds less than classic NTs. Another reason these misfit parts don't work as a cohesive whole... I hate that we are grinding Ratliff down at an ill-suited position.

I definitely give kowalski a shot at center next year. Costa can't even do the most crucial job of snapping correctly. Romo made a ton of plays, hell, you could make a highlight reel of tony catching costas terrible snaps lol

Oh does he? He had zero stuffs and 3 pass breakups all season.

You're overstating his worth to this defense.

You'd have better luck asking my dog, Seamus, to explain quantum theory.

Nice thread......

QB--Romo, bring in a solid back up , keep Mcgee another season or two as project.....in the 2013 draft i would start drafting a QB every year and churning them in and out .....when Tony is done in 4-5 yrs i want his replacement here and ready

Rb--Love Murray and like Felix, and Tanner should get some touches as well...but they gotta stay on the field ..if we are able to have them all on the field constantly we are set ....hopefully they stay healthy

WR--resign LR (unless the $ gets ridiculous ), Miles and Dez are bigtime weapons and LR was a pleasant surprise....Dez is turning the corner, no more acting a fool after every play, and learning more of the playbook i really believe he will become a top leader on this team.......Miles is Miles...he'll drop some here and there but he is a very unique WR.....we are set here

FB--T Fiammetta is legit

TE-- we are obviously set for now with Witten....didnt see much out of Phillips this seaon...i hope hes ready to take over forr Martellus , cause he will probably be gone...maybe 2013 start looking for an athletic TE to groom

OT-- im in agreement with everyone else ..switch Free and Smith and we"ll be fine

OG--Nagy.Arkin and Holland stay , draft one in the 3rd

C--Roll withh killa and hope Costa improves ......

CB---Jenkins to left, new guy on the right (1st or 2nd round pick or FA signing)....Scan and new guy (roster churner) as backups and nickel....Ball, Newman and Walker gone

S--i know its not a popular opinion...but my opinion is that we will be ok with Sense and Elam with a better pass rush and another CB opposite Jenkins....if a playmaker is available take him...if not we will be ok here

LB--Lee is the man ...i believe he and Dez are the future leaders of this team....Brooking goes and so does James unless he will stay on as depth, take another round 4 or 5 and hope Bruce carter is a player

OLB--another opinion im sure will not be popular here is that Spencer should stay he opposite of Ware will be fine once we address our real problems.....Butler as depth and draft another late

NT- -i like Rat as a NT but with this schem he needs the real problem on this team to be addressed....

DE--THIS is the real problem with this defense...we need some DEs who demand respect..we have none...this on our team is as overlooked as offensive guards....address this and our defense becomes way above average

PK--Cut Buehler, roll with Bailey

P-hope Mcbriar heals up and returns to normality...

Somebody is still a little upset that they were completely wrong about a certain player, i see..

Its already been explained bud.. we'll call you if we need you. ;)

Phillips will never be ready to take over for Bennett. Those are two completley different type of players and skill sets.

Most won't agree, and i understand that, but i really hope we bring Bennett back for an average 2-3 year contract. Witten's career is winding down, and i know B wants to be a starter, but i think he'll be alot more involved in the passing game next year if he comes back.

I surprisingly agree. At some point, pride has to kick in while he's wearing the Star. And he really is under appreciated for what he actually does get done on the field.

There are about a dozen players that you can consider solid contributors for next season but what can be done with the rest? Dallas desperately needs to upgrade talent at every position except maybe QB, WR, and TE. Even then, injuries happen so all positions need to be considered this off season, whether through free agency or the draft. Unfortunately, this could take another year or two depending on the long term plan.
