I combined these 2 positions on the d-line because some of the players can play both. We really need some of the youngsters to step up this year.

Bradlee Anae
56 DE 6-3 257 23 2 Utah

Dorance Armstrong
92 DE 6-4 255 23 4 Kansas

Tarell Basham
93 DE 6-4 266 27 5 Ohio

Ron'Dell Carter
97 DE 6-3 269 23 2 James Madison

Chauncey Golston
59 DE 6-5 268 23 R Iowa

Randy Gregory
94 DE 6-5 255 28 4 Nebraska

DeMarcus Lawrence
90 DE 6-3 265 29 8 Boise State

Brent Urban
95 DE 6-7 295 30 8 Virginia

Carlos Watkins
91 DE 6-3 305 27 5 Clemson

Quinton Bohanna
98 DT 6-4 360 N/A R Kentucky

Neville Gallimore
96 DT 6-2 302 24 2 Oklahoma

Justin Hamilton
99 DT 6-2 315 27 5 Louisiana-Lafayette

Trysten Hill
72 DT 6-3 308 23 3 UCF

Osa Odighizuwa
75 DT 6-2 280 22 R UCLA

that's a lot of people.....I think Armstrong is gone...if gholston wasn't a third rounder, I would say he would be on the bubble. but because of his draft position, he will make it, Carter to PS? somebody signed him last year, so not sure if we can stash him there....wouldn't surprise me to see Hill traded for a low round pick....maybe a conditional pick...Raiders? I am not so sure on Anae...he is not a 4-3 DE, but probably more of a situational stand up rusher from a 3-4...so if we do more of that, he may see the field for a few plays....I am very high on Odighizuwa (that's why I think hill will be traded).

but that group is crowded. perhaps we are looking at 10 this year, or 9 at smallest.

Clearly some camp bodies in this mix but I think the final 8-10 are going to be solid. I firmly believe Gregory playing a full season makes everything better. I also like OO’s ability to play inside on passing downs and outside in early downs. I hope Anae steals Armstrong’s snaps as well. I was high on Dorance but he has not been good. Gallimore is going to ball out this year. Hill? It’s make or break for him. QB is finally the fat man we have all been craving.

I don’t see the point in Armstrong
He’s never improved even with playing time
Has he ever made an impactful play? Just one? Maybe one in preseason? Ok, what about one great play in practice?

I am curious what Anae and Carter will do in camp. This duo could end up much better than anyone thought. If that happens we will be seriously deep..like 3 deep along the d line.Anae has all the tools to break out if he gets a chance to shine...much like Donny wilson did last year.

Gregory is the most talented payer in that group and to be honest, he is the only player in that group that has above average talent. DLaw is a $20 million a year run stopper. That is the label that was put on him by several posters when they was defending his level of play and his cap-killer contract. Gallimore was one of the lowest rated DT in the league last year and anything that Hill does on the field is considered a pleasant surprise. The rookies from the draft don’t excite me at all. The failures that have come from 3rd round and later DL picks is long and filled with disappointment. I don’t see any of the DL draft picks that brings me hope for improvement. The only positive I see at the moment is that they will be cheaper than the current DL disappointments on the roster and it will help with the salary cap if they make the team.

Lol I hear you. I think the group is a better than you but I hear you. Hard to get excited about this circus. Gregory could make it all better though.

It’s not like he hasn’t had the chance
He played lots of snaps
He played over 60% of snaps last year with one QB hit and no sacks
He did recover two fumbles

Dlaw had more tackles, sacks and forced fumbles than Gregory did last year
Gregory has talent but he’s not the most talented between he and law
Salary aside Dlaw pretty much doubled his production last year

can't wait to watch the rookies...Osi Odighizuwa...Chauncey Golston...Quinton Bohanna.

i'm excited to watch Basham as well.

DT group looks strong.
Gallimore...Odiggy...Bohanna...Urban...Watkins

i think Hill is gonna have a tough time making the cut....same for Anae.

You have to lower your expectations for Watkins. After the Cowboys signed him I watched a few of the Texans games and he is not better than Hill from what I saw. He looked like the typical Dallas DT.

Every year there's some bit of logic I get overly excited about in the off season and need to temper my expectations around. This year, I think that thing for me is the d-line. Not that I think our personnel is substantially better or that I think any one guy is going to come on like gang busters but that I think the down to down consistency (especially against the run) will be substantially better. We were one gapping almost constantly last year. When you look at guys we added like Urban, Basham, Osa, Gholsten and Bohanna, it's a lot of guys who have been asked to 2-gap a fair bit, can anchor against double teams, and who have the sort of arm length needed from a 2-gap defender. I don't think any one of those guys is going to come close to setting the world on fire but I expect their collective impact to be that we will have far fewer plays where two d-lineman are on the ground and one (usually Hill) is being blocked 15 yards down field. Things were so bad in that regard last year that the guys not named DLaw and Gregory don't have to be difference makers in order for us to be substantially improved.

Feel free to set me straight. Am I hopelessly chugging the Kool Aid to be optimistic about this?

That's exactly how I felt after taking a closer look at what he's done in the past 2 seasons as well. He's the only addition on the d-line I didn't like from this offseason. He has the long arms and thick lower body to be what we're looking for but the film is pretty ugly.

Bohnna is going to be the 2nd most valuable player on D-Line behind Anae!

I see us carrying maybe 10 DL on the unit.
someone on that name/pic list won't be on the 53 team.

Gregory and Anae were the ones I felt were being minimized and phased out by
fired ex-DL coach Jim Tomsula, and management let know him and Nolan know
how irritated they were by showing them the quick exit doors outta here -especially
with Gregory..!

1) DLaw
2) Gregory
3) Gallimore
4) Osa
5) Gholston
6) Urban
7) Bohanna
8) Hill
9) Anae
10) Basham

Out? ... Hamilton, Carter, Watkins
