This isn't as easy as it seems. Today's football is so technique oriented. Open up to 5 o'clock, take a drop step, drop your hips, turn 2, shuffle step etc......Not like the old days of Just Play Football!! LolWe have heard, over the years, how important position flex is to the Cowboys. If so, then why don’t we actually take advantage of position flex of said players more often?
Position flex is one of those words Garrett threw into the lexicon to sound smart. Look at NE. They get guys to fill a specific roll. It works. I think having guys shift a position only works in emergencies and only for exceptional players. Zack Martin is a perfect example.
Position flex is really more an issue with the depth players. It helps if they can back up more than one position because it provides roster flexibility. We have heard, over the years, how important position flex is to the Cowboys. Considering the Patriots are 4-6, I'm not impressed.I have to disagree. NE drafts smart players who can do exactly that. If they need to shift, they shift and just keep rolling. I was watching a game a couple weeks ago where everyone on the OL was playing out of position. They told how many groupings they had used this year. I want to say they had used a different group in each game. Can't remember for sure which team it was but pretty sure it was a team that is rolling like Pittsburg or Buffalo.
I'm not saying its easy or that you should shift just for the sake of shifting but other teams do it quite frequently and effectively. It failed so often here that it created the impression that it takes an All Pro to do it.

Sometimes it adds enough value to keep someone on the roster, but there are also cases in which a player is good at multiple spots, but excels at one in particular.Position flex is for guys they deem not good enough to start at 1 spot.
