It is very hard to evaluate this position due to injuries, scheme and the loss of Parsons.

Eberflus forced his zone scheme on corners who have been strong press/man corners. Both Quinn/Zimmer tried the same, but adjusted quickly realizing they were better in man. Eberflus was far more stubborn, played some man as the season progresses, but still called a zone heavy scheme. Corners were typicially 10 yards off the ball to prevent the big plays, even on 3rd and short situations. Our corners rarely got any pass breakups nor turnovers.

The loss of Parsons also was a huge factor why the secondary struggled so much. Going from a top 5 sack team to middle of the pack forces the corners to cover longer, when you are trying to prevent the big plays, QB's would eat them up underneath. Add in Eberflus refusal to send an extra man to generate pressure, it was a recipe for disaster.

Diggs was coming back from major injury, Bland as he found out has been dealing with foot problems, Elam was a total bust, Steward probably the only one who had a decent season, but he came from Chicago and played in this scheme before. Revel finally returned, but has had his struggles, especially in zone. Butler has yet to be activated.

In my opinion, fix the scheme, fix the pass rush, our corners will play better, but with so much unknown moving ahead (Diggs potential release, Bland Health), their is a significant need at the position.

Players to watch-McCoy Tenn, Dealne LSU

Diggs, Bland and Revel all have health issues.

Hopefully Revel and Bland can rebound back to full health next year.

Diggs is quite honestly not as good as he once was and is overpaid. He should be cut.

So....
Although hope is not a strategy this additional offseason hole needs good old lady luck to shine on it 'cuz the need for 2 starting linebackers is of utmost importance.

I like Delane but prefer him with 2nd 1st.

We really need to knock it out the park in FA this offseason

Position review: All our corners need gone or benched. Next.

Maybe if we had some legit LB's and Safeties, our CB's would not have to make so many damn tackles.

Just a thought.

Diggs - Gone
Bland - Injured and underachieved
Revel - Still hope I guess
Carson - Never looked too good to me
Butler - I have no Idea - for some reason he hasn't seen the field
Stewart - backup potential

Lousy group but could improve if they had a better surrounding cast.
Too many holes on Defense to spend $30M+ on Pickens.

Trade Pickens for Max Crosby. Draft a WR in round 1.

Yep.
I don't know how anybody can watch game after game and not see the total absence of talent at the second level of the defense.
Overshown can't do it by himself.

The South Carolina cornerback Cesse, needs to be scouted as well. I hope we can get a solid outside cornerback in free agency. I can’t believe how bad Carson, Stewart, and Bridges are as depth pieces. I can’t think of two more disappointing players on the defense than Bland and Diggs. Revel has tools but he needs time to develop. Certainly a top need for our team. We need to add two players at a minimum at this position.

scheme, lack of a pass rush, health played a major role why they struggled so badly. I think this group is better than what they looked like this season. However, too many unknowns makes the position a priority

We probably could be similar to San Francisco with the right defensive coordinator. It’s amazing what a good defensive coordinator can do but the Joneses want to be comfortable so they hire someone they are familiar with. Should have hired Saleh as the head coach and made Schotty the offensive coordinator.

Aveion Terrell awfully tempting round one . Team him with Revel have Bland in the slot if he ever gets healthy .

Bridges Steward backup depth types
Butter who knows ?
Carson a 5th round pick enough said

Keep an eye on Brice Pollock from Texas Tech if he comes out. I think he's a junior. He's a good corner.

I think they will be going for the proven guy this time around, someone similar to Quinn. A successful track record, former HC. Todd Bowles could be a name to watch if he gets fired by Tampa. Don’t think they will hire a new dc like Harris

Bowles will probably make the playoffs with Tampa. They play Carolina at home the last week of the season. I doubt if he would want to be a defensive coordinator again even if Tampa let him go. Bowles is a good coach and I doubt he would want to be under Schotty when he knows he is the better coach.

I think Revel can be a bully press man CB who erases WRs if the right DC is hired. He has potential for sure. Hopefully Bland can get healthy by some miracle, and should be the Nickel/Slot CB.

Overall, it doesn't look good.
