I agree. That receiver will take at least a couple of years to get it right, and maybe 1, but in the mean time, Romo is getting older, Flozell, TO, I can go on.

When you have a SB contending team, you need to get a couple of established stars or atleast, really really good players to push you over the top as soon as possible.

After we won that last SB in the nineties, I just knew we were destined for 3 or 4 more, boy was I wrong. SBs don't grow on trees.

Agreed......The Pats saw this exact thing 1 yr ago....replaced virtually thier entire WR-corp this yr with Moss, Welcher etc.....Brady needed weapons, and really they got em' cheap enough considering.....

Has Jerry ever went #1 on a WR via the draft........dont think so....bust potential and development time to high......grabs a name fA is Jerry's MO

I think we ought to add an OL coach - one that knows how to coach run-blocking.

yeah, our OL guy sucks so much that he's going to get some HC interviews. Terrible coach.

Interestingly enough, none of them are starting positions.

When's the last time we could say that?!

Back UP RB
Well, this is obvious. (I'm assuming JJ is gone after this season.) However, I think we need to upgrade both the 2nd and 3rd team RBs. I think we can go a couple of ways here. I hope we get one reasonably priced veteran in FA and also draft a RB.

I'm not sure we use one of our 1st rounders, but I'd expect we use a pick between 2nd-4th rounds, depending if we pick up one in FA as well (which I suspect we will).

Another WR to Complement TO
Glenn is ideal, but again, given his knee injuries, this could be it for Glenn. In any case, I doubt JJ is going to really be able to depend on Glenn's health.

I think we need to get a guy who can stretch the field, rather than mainly a possession receiver. Again, it would not surprise me if JJ tries to replace Glenn with an up and coming veteran. If not, I think it's highly probable we use one of our higher Day 1 Draft picks (Round 1 or Round 2) on a WR.

The reason I think JJ may try to get a veteran to replace Glenn is because we already have developmental WRs on the roster with Stanback, Hurd, and Austin. All 3 of these guys seem to have potential. JJ may want a vet to pair up with TO and Crayton. We'll have to see how FA goes and how much money we have available to spend. But regardless, I think we will get one more WR on next year's roster one way or another.

At Least 1 More CB
I think we need a 3rd CB who after some seasoning, has the skills to become a starting corner. This is regardless whether Reeves is around or not. Personally, I hope we try and upgrade Reeves in FA. But being realistic, the coaching staff may believe that guys like Ball and Ogelsby (sp?) should be able to step up after a year of seasoning.

I expect us to draft at least 1 if not 2 CBs this year. I think we could easily use one of our number 1 picks and a Day 2 pick on upgrading depth at CB.

These are my main positions for upgrade. I'm also assuming that we re-sign Hamlin and Flo. I think Hamlin gets a long-term contract, while Flo either gets franchised or a 2-3 type deal.

Opinions?

good convo!

1. rb. we need a game breaker. if we can work a fair deal with the tuna, mcfadden is back into the game but *only* because of a surprise development. i can see tuna trading down but not cheaply. it would have to be a pretty big trade overall with players and picks going haywire.

2. cb. someone needs to scrape the burn marks off reeves. we have a good to great 1-2 punch but no depth beyond that we can be proud of or count on.

3. OL. gurode needs a better backup. he went down and our good line went average. we need him back to be good and *something* to happen to be great. maybe free or martin will help be that, so maybe it's not time to panic there yet. but that said i'd not cry if a 1st day pick was a C.

4. WR. glenns 1st play back - INT. wrong route? timing? you get tarred and feathered around here if you dare say glenn will need time to get back into the feel of the game but everyone *wants* to believe he can step back on and be the 'old' (younger) glenn. he can't. and TO is getting older. we have crayton who should never go above #2 and then we've got a lot of experiements.

A top-notch CB prospect would be very useful, although the Cowboys have done pretty well with what they have right now, especially in light of the injuries to both starting CBs.

Much like the Chargers' Michael Turner, MBIII is a solid and capable RB. It'd be nice to replace Julius Jones with someone who is even better than a MBIII/Turner level back, but those backs aren't cheap or easy to find.

At WR you've got Owens, Crayton, and, maybe, T. Glenn. It's too early to give up on Stanback. Austin has potential and is a quality special teamer. I suppose you could give up on Hurd (prematurely) or tell Glenn to take a walk, but if you're going to do that, I'd rather do it for a quality FA WR than for a rookie.

If Flozell returns, is there enough space on the roster for a rookie developmental OL, and does it make sense to cut one of the current developmental OL for a new developmental OL? Who do you want to cut? I haven't heard much about him, but maybe Berger is a candidate for replacement if a blue chip guard prospect becomes available.

Alvin Harper out of Tennessee with one of our first rounders in 1991, I think.

Also, Kevin Williams out of Miami with a #2 pick... but that was our first choice that year, I believe.
