Positive Stuff

The one criticism I have of Garrett's playcalling tonight is the lack of screens or dumpoff passes after McGee came into the game. When you have an inexperienced quarterback and the defense is blitzing him hard, you can get some easy yards by throwing passes to the running backs, and it helps build his confidence. But McGee attempted only one pass to the running backs.

I was thinking the same thing. It seemed like it was mostly hand-offs (understandable) and passes to Witten (which is generally safe). Mixing in a few more screens with players like Felix and Miles would have been nice. Overall, I didn't have major issues with Garrett last night. The offense has played well overall since he has been HC - especially considering we are playing with back-up QBs and a banged up receiving corps. The team plays hard in general under him. We need to fix the right side of the OL and get a real FS. Other improvements would also help, but replacing Ball, Davis and Colombo with solid players would help significantly IMO and make Garrett look even smarter.

I missed your post. I was surprised, too. I was surprised Jones only caught one pass.

I agree with you 100%. Felix should have been over 100 total yards in that game for sure. He has been averaging 3.66 catches per game under Garrett (going into that game). I think that number needs to be around 5, imo. I've been looking at Marshall Faulk's numbers. Throwing the football to Felix in space is a long hand-off, and it does build confidence in your passing game and QB. It helps you move the football, too. I love the screens to Jones. Dangerous play.

Edit: 3.66

Im loving the draft position.

We have a chance to turn this season of chaos into a positive.

If we can have a 2003/2005 draft, then this team will be ready to reload for the next few years

So the blame goes squarely on Garrett, because it is his playbook and all. And I will repeat, there are no positives in losing to a 10 loss team.

You're not of the opinion that the defense can dictate what the offense can do? It just may be a situation that Jerry has told the coach that he has to give himself the best chance to win each game, and frankly, Colombo isn't contributing to that objective.

I'm as disappointed as the next person, but this team has more talent on the IR list than on the bench. Garrett just doesn't have many options to adjust.
