I will go on record, if they hire him and believe it's a huge mistake. Not cause he is a bad coach, but a return to a Tampa 2 Marinelli scheme, in which they have been unsuccessful for years, makes zero sense. Been saying all season, need to move away from Marinelli's type of players and add bigger personnel if they truly want to consistently be able to stop the run. Not going to do a deep dive on the scheme, but it's biggest weakness is inability to stop the run.

Now what affect will it do with the current personnel and the upcoming draft?

-Believe players like DLaw and Osa will be key veterans to resign as they fit that quick-twitch up the field style this scheme calls over.
-Devalues the 1T position and adds two 3T's against the pass. Mazi would be a terrible scheme fit as he is more of a read/react type of run defender. 3T becomes a huge need. Cross off the likes of Grant/Williams as they won't be considered
-Defensive Backs will be playing exclusively in zone coverage. Zimmer found out this yr, we are a better press man cover team. Will they adjust the scheme to fit their strengths? Donovan Wilson also might be a bad scheme fit this scheme basically calls for two free safeties.

I actually just looked at how the Bears drafted when he was the HC.

For the early picks it was OL, DTs and DBs.

I don’t know if he devalues the 1T as he drafted Gervon who I think plays both over there.

WE know Stephen believes in what Marinelli told him, not to take a high 2 down 1T.

I’m not a fan of this hire , either. I agree it has nothing to do with Eberflus , but the defensive scheme. Marinelli’s defenses were always paper tigers. There was always one game a year where Rod’s defense would give up a quarter mile in Rushing yards. I hope the cowboys don’t revert back pillaging other team’s practice squads For defensive tackles . It is unlikely since Mazi smith is on the roster , but you never know.
Honestly, I wonder if Jerry and Steven employ coaches who utilize antiquated schemes on offense and defense because their knowledge of football is so dated . Explaining modern offensive and defensive
Concepts to them would be like trying to to teach a 3rd grader differential equations

Let's hope Eberflus puts his own spin on the scheme that calls for bigger interior lineman. Also, for this system to be effective, they need a deep rotation. Cannot have street fa's serving as backups. It's a great year needing a DT as the class is loaded, but they cannot exclude players who like they did in the pass cause they weren't considered high level pass rushers. It is going to be interesting to see if they do pass on one of these prospects.

I'm not bothered by Schotty being the HC, matter of a fact, I was as neutral as neutral can be. However, Eberflus, is an issue for me and I liked Matt's 1st stint here. After experiencing a defense that gets turnovers and pressures QBs relentlessly, I do not want to go back to the bend but don't break crap defenses of before. I want not to do with that scheme, Marinelli or Kiffin. Yuck.

Jay Glazer just said Eberflus will be the DC in Dallas.

FAs from DA Bears Eberflus may want to bring with him:
DT Byron Cowart (28)( 6'3 300) 31% snap share. Stats: 26 tckls, 2.5 sacks
DE Darrell Taylor (27) (6'4 267) 35% snap share. Stats: 32 tckls, 3 sacks, 2 FF
Other guys are RFAs, ERFAs or not good.
Cowart and Taylor could add depth to the DL rotation.
Interesting stat from Da Bears defense is the FS Kevin Byard had 130 tckls!!! Idk if Dallas had a guy who can do that.

if he is the Coach your looking for 290 - 315 DT max guys with long arms and quick twitch off the line. your looking for DE 255 - 270 same thing fast up the field can bend the corner. your looking for mid 230 lbs that can get sideline to sideline and fill gaps. backend is like Zimmer looking for Zone corners keep it in front. smart guys

Look up Eberflus HITS will give you idea of what he did in Indianapolis & Chicago.
