Looking at your list I'd assume the target is Clint Sintim. He is somewhat unique in this draft having played in a 3-4. He becomes the 3rd OLB on draft day and Spencer hasn't done anything to suggest he has a lock on the 2nd spot.

Well, that's not an entirely implausible scenario... I remember when I first heard the Boys were interested in Sintim, my reaction was "he'll be long gone before pick 51, so why bother??"

This might be why they bothered... but my gut is telling me that if Jerry is looking to trade up, it's because he's become "infatuated" with a player, and I don't see him getting that worked up over a linebacker...that's why I think that the WR is the more likely choice, and again my hunch (and it is just a hunch) is that Jerry is Jones-ing for a player who reminds him of Michael Irvin... :D

Jerry every year looks at the cost to move up and also factors in what he can get by moving down. Its just due diligence. I am pretty sure any talk now is just feeling things out and means next to nothing.

You're probably right right...

It could be a safety from the standpoint that guy can start for us. We do have an opening for one.

William Moore is gonna be a steal for some team, I'm certain of it...

Bear, good read as usual

I just cannot imagine taking a WR with our first pick (and especially trading up to get a WR), that would mean we took WRs with our 1st, 2nd, and 3rd picks (and any other picks we had to give up in the trade up). that would be completely asinine.

Not if Crayton is packaged in any deal... at that point, you've basically got Williams, Austin, Hurd and Stanback, and nothing else...

Really, what's so wrong with dedicating three draft picks in one draft to rebuilding your WR corps??

It is entirely possible imho that losing Ellis means you need Sintim because there isn't another player you feel comfortable with lower in the draft. Sidbury is a solid athlete but he is very raw right now.

Only hole I see in this is that Sintim is too similar a player to Spencer. They are both undersized pass rushers, who are not overwhelming, physically or athletically, and who are not very agile in space. Sintim is more proven but limited upside.

Sidbury is bigger and more athletic than both, but his size does not translate to his game, yet. He is much better rushing the passer (and even then he is still learning) than stopping the run. But his upside is very high.

I like Veikune over both guys. He is better in space, stud against the run, and almost as good a passrusher. And he still has upside. He has a nasty on-field disposition too, high points with me.

And mock draft:

Having read the assorted rumors about the Boys looking to package Greg Ellis and possibly Patrick Crayton along with draft picks to move up in the 2nd round, I found myself starting to speculate about who Jerry might like so much that he'd want to trade up... the scenarios I've seen have him moving up into the 33-36 range (one proposed deal had Jerry shipping Ellis plus pick 51 plus presumably some later picks to Detroit for pick 33, another had him packaging Ellis and Crayton plus the Boys' pick 69 to Cleveland for pick 36 and pick 103)...

So, what players might still be on the board in the 30-50 range, that Jerry might like?? Working from the NFL Draft Scout top 100, these players might be on the board:

WR Hakeem Nicks, number 32...
C/OG Alex Mack, number 35...
WR Brian Robiskie, number 37...
LB Connor Barwin, number 39...
WR Kenny Britt, number 40...
LB Clint Sintim, number 41...
C Max Unger, number 42...
S Louis Delmas, number 45
C Eric Wood, number 46...

I'm going to assume that Delmas and Wood are not the targets, Jerry wouldn't have to trade down to the 33-36 range to acquire them... which leaves us with 3 WRs, 2 LBs and 2 Cs... particularly if Crayton was traded, I'd be inclined to believe that the target for such a tradeup would be a WR, meaning Nicks, Robiskiie or Britt... at the same time, the Boys have shown some interest in the two LBs, Barwin and Sintim, and with Greg Ellis packaged in the trade, another LB might make some sense...

Still, if Jerry trades up, my hunch is that it would be for a WR of his choosing...

Which would leave us with a draft that might look something like this:

2a, number 36-- Kenny Britt, WR, Rutgers...
2b, number 51-- William Moore, S, Missouri...
3, c. number 82-- Jarron Gilbert, DE, San Jose State...
4a, c. number 116-- Tupou Fenuki, OT, Oregon...
4b, c. number 125-- Jason Williams, LB, Western Illinois...
5, c. number 172-- Chris Baker, NT, Hampton..
6a, c. number 175-- Phillip Hunt, LB, Houston...
6b, c. number 211-- Cornelius Lewis, OG, Tennessee State...

So, what do y'all think of that draft??

Nice job! I would go w/ any of those three I bolded if we traded up, Nicks out of the three. Liked the mock but no QB?

Some really great insight but that would mean we spent this years 1st, 2nd and 3rd rounders on WR. Also traded a WR and released 2 of our starting WR's at the same time.

Jerry's philosophy last year was that a WR wasn't worth drafting because when looking at his current stable of WR's and the NFL trend of waiting 3 years for a 1st round talent to evolve, there wasn't one that could give himmore in comparison. That mindset would have to take a whole 360 if we drafted a WR with our first pic.

I think Sintim or Safety get the nods there. I didn't see many corners you thought worthy and there is supposed to be some secondary depth throughout this draft. I'd think corner might get some attention also as a possibility if we don't pick up a vet before the draft like we did last year.

** Can't edit my posts, meant to say 2 of our starting WR's would not be on this team. 1 traded (Crayton) and 1 realeased (T.O).

bear, if we do this we would have RW as the only guy with NFL experience and then 4 developmental guys (all with little or no NFL experience) on a team that wants to compete for the playoffs. this would be a complete crap shoot.

I would sign holt
trade crayton
draft a WR in rounds 5+ to be PR/KR
let this rookie and stanback/hurd duke it out for 2 spots on the roster.
