Neither of our safeties (Donovan Wilson and Malik Hooker) are due guaranteed money, which means if they are cut outright the team receives the full amount of cap relief.

Wilson is due $7M in 2025
Hooker is due $5.75M in 2025

With the resigning/extensions of Juanyeh Thomas and Marquese Bell, the writing may be on the wall for both of the older vets.

It may hint at what we do in free agency and/or the draft.

I'd keep Dono but cut Hooker.
Agreed. Wilson is one of the biggest hitters in the league and a force in run support.

Is he a bit of a liability in coverage? Yeah, sure, but he should not be put in that situation frequently by the coaching staff.

He should be cheap to resign too. Run-first safeties are low cost.

I would actually keep Hooker and get rid of Wilson, Wilson is not good in coverage and was taking bad angles last year and going for KOs instead of tackles
Not to mention, always making untimely decisions at the wrong time.

Both can be decent. I think Wilson had a down year last season.
I would be ok moving on from both of them.
I would also be ok keeping them both, if no other options come along.

Would it be a disservice to keep them and let them go later, therefore reducing the amount of a contract they make get. Also it reduces the possibility of getting a comp pick, or offsetting any FA they may sign.

I thought Wilson had a rough start to the season and really struggled adjusting to his assignments under Zimmer early. However, he improved as the season went on and got back to the Wilson we saw more of in prior seasons.

bye byew to both of them. thanks for the hard work. but time to move on.

gotta cut them both if you want to change the culture.... Hooker may survive due to playing with EB's before.

Of the two, I’d probably be more open to cutting Hooker. On the balance, he’s been okay during his tenure here. I would have liked to seen him make more plays in coverage.

Hooker gets slower and slower, Wilson is over the hump when it comes to potential, he isn't going to get better. I would be good with both gone, but there has to be a plan to replace them at least one in FA if not trade.

It looks like Wilson costs about $3.3M to cut, Hooker about an extra $2M if you cut him this year instead of next year. I'd guess that you go into camp with both and if they get beat out of starting spots you let them go then. The Cowboys already have about $48M in cap space right now, so its not like they are hurting to find money.

Wilson is the one that should go if anyone does....Bell would be a better fit to take his place IMO than Hooker's.

I get it that some people have their pets that they want to see, but there is a reason Bell and Thomas have been backups and not starting over Wilson and Hooker............
With the needs Dallas already has, why make 2 more needs?

Go into camp with them, and if they get beat out..........send them packing.
You are still going to pay both of them to leave in dead money, so why not see if it was a down year, or they are washed.

Doesn't make sense to cut them yet, to me.

They used both June 1st designations for this season.
With the accelerated dead cap you’d save about 3.2m on Wilson and a little over 1m on Hooker.
You do so despite both players having PFF scores in the mid 60s in a season with questionable DLine play, with 2 UDFA who haven’t been able to outright win the position nor stay healthy as possible replacements and create another hole to fix in the draft.
It’s one of the few positions that looks fairly strong or at least stable … just doesn’t seem worth it for a couple million in cap space!
