let's look at players with only 1 year left on contract or those underperforming their contract.
only 1 expensive player in tcrawford.
2 wr that may be replaced.
1 te 1 year before ufa.
1 rb 1 year before ufa.

1. tcrawford - could be $7.3M of dead money would be spread into 2 after june 1. this results in $2.35M of cap savings in 2018. if u roll that savings into 2019, he would count as only $1.3 million in 2019.
possible cheap replacements: ward, neal, ealy (1 year left only)
2. twill - ideally traded even if cowboys eat a little salary. if possible, $7.25M of dead money would be spread into 2 after june 1. this could result in only a cap hit of $0.125 of cap hit in 2018 and $3.625M of cap hit next year.
possible cheap replacements: thompson, gallup
3. beasley - only 1 year before ufa. ideally traded if twill cannot be traded. dead money of $1M this year or $0.5M of dead money per year for 2018 and 2019.
4. Swaim - only 1 year left before ufa
possible replacements - rico, jarwin, schultz
5. Rod Smith - only 1 year left before ufa but 2nd contract may not be expensive.
possible replacements - scarborough, chunn

Cuts are for players that just aren’t good enough. Yes there are times with two marginal players and if one has a huge salary then you may cut them for that. But we will just need to see in TC if that applies.

right, the 2 players i picked are not particularly special.
they could readily be matched by their potential replacements that have more than 1 year left.

Can't imagine any of those guys not being on the active roster this season.
Only one I could see is Beasley.

His twitter comes off as someone who is worried for his job security. And Hurns is best out of the slot. But you're probably right.

Much more realistic suggestions would have been:
Noah Brown
Deonte Thompson
Chaz
Rush
Tapper
Ash

yea, i guess i already assumed chaz and tapper are gone but neither offer much savings
twill may be wr#5 after hurns, gallup, thompson and beas so let the new guys develop
brown has value as blocker and has 3 years left.
thompson has value as speedster in addition to austin
rush and ash could well be gone but does not offer much savings

Scarbrough is not going to beat out Smith.
He is at best at this point a PS guy. Need to see him in TC.
i predicted fans will be on him like they were Darrius Jackson, and it has started. DJ 2.0

Crawford, never has lived up to his contract, and I would love to see a player beat him out, it the coaches like him so I doubt it happens.

TWill and Beasley will be here too as they will not have that big of a turnover at WR. Thompson and Gallup will be on the team as well. The only way Beasley is not here, is if the decide Austin can take his spot. But he is more for the Dunbar role, and the jet sweep play.

Swaim, he has a good rapport with some plays with Dak. Unless Schultz really impresses as Rico too. Then that may determine a lot., else they will keep 4 TE’s

-Swaim is the most experienced TE on the team
-Beasley knows the system and is fairly reliable.
-Rod Smith proved to be a good #3 RB but possible
-TWill is an avg #2/#3. He has not developed. He’s no better today than his rookie year. But only way he gets cut is if Thompson beats him
-Crawford is overpaid IMO, But he does a lot of dirty work that doesn’t show up on the stats sheets

Cut those 5, then you can also cut the 10-15 guys that sucked so bad that they couldn't pass any of those 5 expendable scrubs on the depth chart.
How they play may be a better way to determine cuts than length of contract
And why cut Twill when you have to pay him anyway

All of those on your list, I could easily see. Beasley we'd be able to trade, if anything. But Hurns I think is here to be more of a slot WR, and I think we'll see a both Beasley and Austin on the field together in sets with Witten retired. Bease is a comfortable target for Dak, so I can't see them cutting a third guy he's used to throwing to right now.

I'm trying to think who an actual surprise cut may be on either side of the ball now. We've had so much turnover....maybe Bailey, if he hasn't gotten over his yips?

you have to pay him so ideally he is traded even with eating some salary.
however, you want to keep wr's that could be part of the future.
twill is not part of the future, imo.

I dont see a player that can replace what TyCraw on that list. Neal and Craw dont play similiarly, Ealy is much worse than Craw, and I dont know who Ward is.

The great thing is the OP has an opinion, there's a lost of push back on that opinion, yet he is not reacting negatively while trying to prove his points logically

Only cut those who legitimately have been surpassed. There are no needs to cut for salary reasons at the moment.

Swaim is probably most in danger, but not because of his contract, which has to be very inexpensive. I just think they really like Jarwin, and obviously the newly drafted rookie will make the team, so if Gathers can take a step forward this year Swaim may be toast.

How many TEs do we usually carry on 53? I know last year was different with injuries, but dont we typically carry four or three with a WR/TE hybrid(Mayle & Brown)
