Possible idea (based on the CFL) how to improve the kickoff

I’m aware of that. Instead of the 30 move it to the 35 or 40. This will deter them from kicking it deep and force a return.

Sure, but I'm saying that by doing that, the difference between kicking it out of bounds and kicking out of the endzone for a touchback is only 5 yards. If they do that, then they should put an out of bounds kickoff to the 45.

Then they would simply change the rule by moving the ball to the 45 yard line for a kick off out of bounds. There’s no excuse for an NFL kicker to kick one out of bounds so the penalty should be steep. You rarely see a ball kicked out of bounds on a KO.

Right, that's what I'm saying. They'd probably have to move a kickoff out of bounds penalty to the 45 if they move the touchback to the 35.

I like the current kickoff in place but would make a return mandatory. No touch backs unless the kick goes out of bounds in the end zone.
I think this is the simplest approach. And treat out of the back of the end zone as the same as out of bounds. Bring it out to the 35 (or even the 40 or 45). Adds a ton of strategy to fielding kicks. If the returner lets one go thinking it will go out the back of the EZ and it doesn’t, you have the potential for a safety, TD, or stuffing a team deep in their own territory.

I wish they would take kicking completely out of the National Football League. I would rather watch paint dry than a game full of punts. Kickers are not real football players. I would love to see them go the way of the Dodo bird.

yet this league allows punts and doesn't change those rules, just as many high speed collisions on punts....If the league was so concerned about collisons and injuries, but they still want an 18 game season.....it's all BS, the league wants more money, it's not about player safety....
30% of concussions were on kickoffs. They are just following the science. If most happen on one particular play even though it’s not bear most often play then it kinda makes sense. We will see after the season how well it works
