Long highlight worthy runs are typically well blocked. But Coleman also aided those long runs with his game speed...ability to erase pursuit angles & break arm tackles, etc.

Coleman not only led the nation in long TD runs...but was also 4th in the nation in yards gained after contact. By contrast, Murray led the league in yards gained before contact.

Coleman also showed his toughness & team first attitude by doing a good deal of what he did with a broken bone in his foot.

I think Gurley will be out of play. I'm hoping they land Coleman, Gordon, Yeldon, or Ajayi.

Keep on reading your stupid *** draft scout websites that do nothing but throw numbers at a board till they stick........The guy is way faster than a 4.5 and even if he does run a 4.5 (which would shock me) he is as fast in pads as the fastest. Rice ran a 4.6 something but never got caught from behind. Keep reading the BS draft sites though. We will see after his pro day all these professional sights bump him up 20-30 spots after tomorrow, I am just here to tell y'all sooner.

Also, put your money where your mouth is. I bet $100 he runs faster than "Gordan". Just say I take the bet before he runs cause I won't be around to accept, I am in though. Oh, and I will give you a whole .05th off of Gordans time because I know you will cry how the 40 times are always inflated outside the combine. So 4.52-.05=4.47, so Tevin has to beat a 4.47 tomorrow. PUT YOUR $ WHERE YOUR MOUTH IS PAL, I'm in.

Machismo and bluster is boring and makes one appear a child. Draftscout is better than the wild guess of random message board poster.

Rice never got caught from behind? I'll just be nice I guess.

Not to piss on the bonfire here, but Coleman had a sesamoid bone in his foot removed and a tendon reattached to another bone just a few months ago. I had the same surgery to my sesamoid bone (I played college football) and have never been the same. Neither was Calvin Hill who had the same surgery (so did Heath Shuler but he always sucked). The sesamoid is a free floating bone under the ball of your foot. When mine was taken out, my big toe lost its strength and range of motion. May not sound like much, but your big toe is the last thing that pushes when you run. As a result, my left leg lost the "pop" it used to have. And it led to me overcompensating, and having right knee surgery a few years later for torn cartilage. Of course I was never an elite athlete, had the surgery in my 30's, and Coleman had it at age 21. So this result is not going to necessarily happen to Coleman, but never underestimate how significant a foot surgery -- and this one in particular -- can be on a running back long term. Buyer beware.

That's concerning. Great info. What kind of impact did it have on lateral movement or stopping and starting? Is it something that gets worse over the course of running more? For instance, might the impact be difficult to spot running two 40s at a Pro Day, but if he were to run ten the decline would be much greater than we'd see from general fatigue.

I will say, for someone who didn't want to piss on the bonfire, you should think about seeing a urologist. :muttley:

I think my problem is that I had my urologist perform my foot surgery...

My surgery had no effect on lateral movement or stopping/starting. So his agility should not be affected. I think the issue is really that his surgically-repaired foot/leg will always be weaker because of the reduced range of motion of his big toe. This probably wont be an issue with a pro day 40 (or a couple of them), but could cause compensation issues for his other leg, like it did with me. Every bone in your foot is there for a reason. When you take one out, it screws with your equilibrium. So he might break down sooner than a RB who has two healthy feet. Just my opinion; Im not a doctor, but I play one on TV...

Love how fast Coleman accelerates into and through LOS, no hesitation at all even in small creases. And he is not looking to bounce outside like speed backs always seem to do. Crucial to success in our zone blocking scheme.

I think most of us look at highlight reels. Look at this game reel. Apart from the 2 fumbles, he does not look physical or fast to the hole. I know many of these runs are not well blocked, but he runs so high and is such a long strider, I dont see his ability to make people miss when the run is not perfectly blocked. He is not one of my favorites, and is coming off a serious foot injury.

I watched that game in its entirety. Michigan s one of the best D's in 2014 and Indiana's offense was Tevin Coleman and everyone knew it. Look at how many guys were stacked in the box even when Indiana tried to spread the D in passing formations. And Coleman still put up 100 very dirty yards against the Wolverines, on a bad foot to boot. Coleman has breakaway speed but he is in between the tackles runner, this game actually showcases that really well. Think Murray against Arizona D with Weeden at QB.

I didn't see many plays with more than 7 in the box watching that Michigan game.

Freeze the plays right after the snap and you can see that even the slot and border corners are cheating towards the run. Even when playing quarters, safeties are also cheating inside. Diamont was the 3rd string QB I believe and Indiana really did not have any threats in passing game.

I just don't see that very much after rewatching again. There were several plays the safeties were still dropping after the Coleman was tackled. Almost all the tackeles were made by DL or LB. I saw one where a S made the play but most of the times S was involved were on the few big gains.

I am not sure where I put Coleman. I know Bucky Brooks calls him a McFadden clone. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? McFadden ran a 4.33 electrically timed at the Combine. Coleman ran a 4.39 and 4.40 hand timed.....which would be closer to a 4.5 if electronically timed. I do think that Coleman was a one man show in college.

I like Coleman as a back, I just am not sold on taking a back in this draft with our first 3 picks...too many needs on defense

You realize that in most cases the minimum they add for a hand time compared to an electronic time is .1, not .05. Another one of your random tactics to prop your man crush up that makes no sense.

Wow......could have given you a whole .1 seconds. It's ok to be scared, especially when it's the guy the Boys will be drafting this year.

Your desperation to pin an emotional disposition on me is only revealing of yourself, chachi.

You are doing the interwebs equivalent of raising your voice in an argument. You have no empirical nor logical basis.
