Don't buy that.
DLaw and David Irving are gonna cost a whole lot more next year.
Think Crawford is one to go to make that affordable. Post June cut frees up lots of cap space and Crawford simply isn't worth a 9m cap hit.
If he wants to help us out and take a pay cut similar to Doug Free than of course keep him around after restructure.

No way we can keep both. They will both make some major money next year.

No, he's done for year.
I am guessing next year he and and Charlton team up to replace the highly paid Crawford.

Keep in mind we've been sitting a decent DE every week anyway.

Why would you cut Crawford next year? You only save like $2MM in cap space and have to take a $7.3MM dead money hit.

Irving won't command big bucks. I believe his tender next year will be like $4MM or so.

Why would you bring Tapper back? There is absolutely no reason. It's like the people begging to bring back Gregory. Why???? Our DL has enough pass rushers at this point. We are likely going to have two guys with double digits and another two probably around 8.

Lawrence and Irving gets 10+ sacks. Who are the other two that are going to get 8 or so sacks a piece? Crawford has a shot at 8.

People overrate our depth at DE. You have two potential studs in Irving and Lawrence and a solid guy in Crawford and a project in Charlton. That's about it. Frankly, if the right guy is there, I'd still draft a DE in the first round in the next draft.

To suggest just cutting Tapper is silly. He's a worthy project given his skill set to keep around and see if you can develop it.

If anyone comes back my guess would be rico
Then again after the worlds worst concussion that may be more wishful thinking
But tapper really isn’t needed nor shown he can really earn snaps

Irving is too good inside over OC to not ever play there but they like being able to move Irving around to take advantage of match ups and give OLs nightmares.

Agreed. I know he was a DE more at first, but I LOVE seeing him blow up the middle of the Offensive Line. He's really coming into his own.

I know he went on IR but maybe it would be possible to return near the end of the year and bring even more speed to the defense. It would be good to see him rotating with these guys. I would think he would be our 3rd best defensive end right now.

Has anyone heard of his progress?
Only if a DE gets injured. They only carry 4 on game day and I don't think they are ready to replace Mayowa.

Having Taco and Tapper as 2 of 4 would be too much inexperience.

Who is the decent DE we have been sitting every week you are referring to? Did we sign someone or trade for someone and I somehow missed it?

My question was more in the spirit of will Tapper be healthy enough to come back by season's end? That's the first question that really has to be determined.

Second, if he can come back, should he? Obviously if no one gets hurt (which we hope is the case) there may not be room for him on the roster unless we go short somewhere else.

The pro to bringing Tapper back is that we really need to see what we have in him this year and you can never have too many really good pass rushers. I'm not sure if Tapper is a really good pass rusher or not, but we know Taco isn't at this point. Right now we have two good pass rushers on the DL in Lawrence and Irving. We don't have another ace besides them.

Keep in mind there are now two exemptions available to use to bring a player back from IR. I don't currently see another candidate to return other than Tapper.

At various times it was Mayowa, Tapper, Moore. All of them I'd call decent NFL DEs. Then again Moore hasn't been signed by anyone so perhaps I was wrong on him.

any scenario that involves having to rely on Tapper for 16-20 games is asinine imo

My understanding is to use those you must place the player on the active roster after 8 weeks. Tapper was considered a 10-12 week injury.
Since it was week 4 that's essentially beyond the end of the season.

But I guess theoretically if he recovered quickly he could be returned week 16 or 17 as insurance for the playoffs.

Again, though, we were stashing a DE on inactive lists so I doubt we feel short at tha position and not sure Tapper has time ot get back this year in the best of circumstances.

But hopefully he is ready for 2018. He has a ton of pass rush potential.

Define count on? I'm guessing you posted exact same thing about DLaw right?

When you draft these guys sometimes you get a great 4-5 years and other times you get a great 1-2.

Tappar is signed, cheap and has potential. So of course he counts as being one of your 4-5 DEs.

Yeah, Crawford isn't going anywhere. Nor should he. He's earning that salary. We don't beat the Commanders without him.

I think Taco will be greatly improved next year like most 2nd year players are. Put him in at RDE and I could see Crawford next year as a supersub who plays several different positions to keep the opponent guessing. He could be a fifth starter in effect next year, which is great for Marinelli's wave attack.
