The Zombies, part of the English invasion, hit the charts with songs “Time of the Season” & “She’s Not There” in 1969
Unfortunately, they had broken up two year earlier.
But since noone really knew what any of the band members looked like, the the promoter created a new Zombie act that toured the northern US.
The glaring difference in sound was ascribed to "studio distortions"
Trying to maximize profits, the promoter simultaneously created a 2nd Zombies band to tour the southern US.
They didn't even have a keyboard player, a major element of their sound.
The southern band was one of the first paying gigs for Frank Beard and Dusty Hill, original members of ZZ TOP
