Well, that was sheer genius. It's third down, and you can ice the game with a first down, or you can run and wolf down most of the time, giving it back to them with very little time. What to do? Do you do a safe short pass that might ice it with the first down? Do you run the ball, and pig up much of the time? Why, no. Neither one. Throw a bomb all the way down the field.

It’s fair to argu making them use their final timeout, but they would have had just as much time on the clock, so they would have played things differently on offense most likely. My guess is that McCarthy didn’t trust the defense that was getting shredded, so he rolled the dice, get the first down and the play is over. We can only suppose that no one was open short since Moore doesn’t employ all the pick plays that others use.
