Firstly, we can't walk away from any of our big contracts this year. That's D-Law, Dak, T.Smith, J.Smith, Zeke, Martin, L.Collins, and Cooper. Cooper, Jaylon and Tyron could be done next year if circumstances required.

A few of the mid-tier wouldn't make sense to cut this season either. Brown and Jarwin having too much dead money, while Urban + Basham have fully guaranteed contracts so it wouldn't make sense to cut them unless you need the roster spot.

The ones that could be cut
Cedric Wilson - 2.1m cap hit, 0 dead money
Ty Nseke - 1.25m, 500k dead money
Carlos Watkins - 1.75m cap hit, 500k dead money
Darian Thompson - 1.28m cap hit, 100k dead money
Maurice Canady - 1.25m cap hit, 200k dead money
Jayron Kearse - 1.1m cap hit, 150k dead money
Noah Brown - 1.1m cap hit, 130k dead money

We could theoretically cut all of them and free up about 5m. It's not a huge amount and I think we'd only do it if rookies show more in pre-season than the vets. But these are the names to look at being cut.

Kiss them all goodbye other than maybe Wilson or Brown. Choose one.

The only one on that list I can possibly see as a cap cut is Watkins. DL is crowded with DLaw, Gregory, Hill, Urban, Gallimore, Armstrong, Brasham, Anae and rookie class drafted (3 total).

Most of them were just offered that money this year. They may get cut for being surpassed by better options in their roles, but not as cap casualties.

Thompson and Kearse are special team starters and are going no where. Same with Wilson (punt returns) and is a great depth receiver, a Dak favorite.

Offensive line wont be touched. Depth needed.

That leaves Canady, Watkins and Brown.

Depending on how our rookies show at camp those would be the bubble names. Also depends if they sign another vet CB which would make Canady expendable.

Thompson and Kearse are not secure at all on ST. The only person secure due to ST (besides P,K, and LS) is Goodwin. Wilson gets a gold star next to his name because of ST (punt returner) and I expect him to make the team, but he will make the team because he is also our 4th WR. Thompson is certainly replaceable on ST and Kearse is strong on ST, but he has no position on this team besides that. He was to be the backup to Neal in the WLB/SS position- which now is looking like the spot Parsons will play, and push Neal to the backup. Not to mention we have others now that have to step up into ST roles if they want to make this team (Reggie Robinson, Nashton Wright, Mukuamu, Bernard, Gifford, both Browns, Fehoko, etc.).

I expect both Thompson and Kearse to be off this team come cut down.
I think it comes down to Watkins/Hill for the last DT spot. Cutting Watkins saves you 1.35M with dead of 400K. Cutting Hill saves you .94M this year and 1.16M next year, but has .39M dead charges each of the next two years. Not to mention Watkins is just plain horrible. Hill isn't great but he is better than Watkins and 4 years younger than Watkins.

The only way Nseke gets cut is if they finally decided to pull Connor Williams from the starting lineup and replace him with McGovern, finally. They could then turn Williams into the super-sub on the OL, able to play for anyone except maybe the C, and they have toyed with that idea too.

Noah Brown could be a cut but one of the younger WRs would have to out perform him both as a WR and on ST and this batch of UDFA WRs leaves a lot to be desired in terms of being WRs much less ST. Last year's UDFA stand a better shot (Parker specifically).

Both Kearse and Thompson are Fassel signings. They are not going anywhere. Bank on it.

I think Thompson, Canady and Brown are most likely due to numbers. Thompson is probably the fifth safety (Wilson, Kazee, Mukuama and Kearse) while I think we'll only keep four to go long at corner (especially since Neal also could be counted as a safety). However, if Mukuama doesn't show well, we could keep Thompson as the only other true FS on the roster. Even going long at corner, it will be hard to keep Canady. I've got Diggs, Joseph, Brown, Lewis, Wright and Goodwin ahead of him. It's possible that Wright will need some time to develop, but I can't see us trying to get a third-round pick on the practice squad. Canady then would likely have to beat out Goodwin, but we love him for his special teams play. At receiver, it could come down to Wilson vs. Brown. Wilson is the better receiver while Brown is the better blocker. I think Fehoko could better fill Brown's role for now. That would leave us with five receivers — Cooper, Lamb, Gallup, Wilson and Fehoko — so we could keep both or possibly Malik Turner or a young, cheaper player instead.

I only see Thompson cut right now. Saving 1M here or there isn't much.
