Potential Nickname for Our 2007 Defense

Nicknames happen naturally and most often as a direct result from an act or comment from an athlete, coach, or commentator.

Anything else is perceived as forced, contrived, and more than likely unlasting and weak.

Our job as fans, is when we hear it, we'll know it, and run with it.

Personally I find anything other than "Doomsday" to be distasteful.

I feel the same way bro, as long as they can earn that name!

I'm kinda conflicted on Doomsday...it's hard to see any other name on the Dallas Cowboys but then again the Doomsday Defense was unique to the Landry era and I kinda feel it should stay there.

That's like saying the Cowboy's should not be referred to as AMERICA'S TEAM for the same reason.

I don't want to see our defense named after a former defense no matter how great it was. Those players should be remembered as the only "doomsday defense" not passed down to continuing Cowboy defenses. Our current defensive players deserve their own nickname but naming them can wait until we set how they play this year. Remember, they have to have a great defense not just a good one. The "electric company" doesn't turn me on probably because it used elsewhere. Also don't like the Brady Gang; name of our defense shouldn't carry the name of just one individual but inclusive for all.

sago, I disagree. I think the 2006 edition of the Dallas Doomsday Defense is a great name and doesn't besmirch the great Cowboys players of the past. This defense has not earned the moniker yet but I look forward to the time they do.

I'm not much on nicknames and think there is little point in trying to generate one, because nicknames are spontaneous.

But I think billyrags' approach makes sense:

A twist on the classic - Legion of Doom!
Legion of Doom probably isn't catchy enough, but the "twist on the classic" would be good - some use of Doomers, Doomsters, D'Days, etc.

As a long time fan, I could see this generation's defense as the "Baby Doomers."

That's catchy...I like that Idea. It tips the hat to the teams of old but doesn't try to usurp their legacy.

LEGION of DOOM

I like that. Or maybe "Doom 3"

How about - The Great Wall of Tuna? Or maybe The Tuna Curtain. no... that's just wrong...

The Rams with Deacon Jones, Merlin Olsen, and Roosevelt Greer (can't remember the other guy) were the Fearsome Foursome.
Lamar Lundy. Greer and Lundy are the only two of the four not in the Hall of Fame...
