Potential OL Trade Partners - Chicago Bears?

I have nothing to base this on, but just "bear" with me.

The bears backup QB is Josh McCown. I believe that Orton would be a huge upgrade over him.

AND I really like our rookies!

CHI is overhauling their OL. 2 Free Agents Bushrod, Slauson, and Drafted Long.

Marinelli came from Chicago. He would know more about these OL than anyone.

The CHI starters appear to be going towards:

Bushrod (left tackle), Slauson (left guard), Garza (center) Long (right guard) and Webb (right tackle).

Potential Trade\CUT Guys:
Taylor Boggs 1 yr experience G\C - Humboldt State
Edwin WIlliams 4 yrs exp G\C - Maryland

Derek Dennis 1 yr experience G/T - Temple
James Brown (battling with Long) 2 yrs G/T - Troy

  • What kind of intel do you have on any of these players or rumors?
  • There are some young guys there. Maybe Marinelli can develop? ;)
  • I think Brown and Williams are both intriguing.

Well for one, Marinelli isn't an offensive line coach.

And there is no way the Bears would trade for Kyle Orton, and no way he would go there to be a backup where he has already played a chunk of his career.

Plus, the Bears oline sucks worse than ours, so why would we want their backups?

Not to be negative, but this is just all a bad idea lol

Denver actually has a fair amount of OL. They have Philip Blake and Quinton Saulsberry as third stringers right now....both are guys that many liked in the draft and they run a ZBS.

Having started his career in Chicago, I doubt they have much interest in bringing him back or trading anything of value to get a backup QB.

Exhausting all resources my man. Coaches know players on both sides of the ball from their previous teams pretty well. Trading for Orton would be outlandish but I believe they are in the market. DAL is def in the market for OL. Maybe we just pick one of them up when they get cut. The Bears were listed 10th in rushing yards for the NFL at close to 2000 yards and 123 per game. That nearly doubles our AVG and total. How bad do they look now?

Boggs is a small school player. Really, he's going to struggle to be on a practice squad somewhere. People complained about how much time Arkin needed to develop. I'd say Arkin came into the league far more ready than Boggs.

Although I like discussing different scenarios like this, I don't think this idea would be a good idea. A backup QB is usually not appreciated until....gulp....you need him. I do not think Orton's performance in limited preseason play is indicative of his abilities or potential impact. He is a proven QB with extensive game experience.......cannot discount that in the event we need him for a game or two.

Cowboys would be stupid to go into the season with a free agent rookie as their backup. For that reason, Orton's not going anywhere.

They would be stupid to not address the OL, but here we are. One OL selected in the past 2 drafts.

This has Madden written all over it. There's no way the Bears, who have had probably the worst OL in the NFL over the last five years would trade any of their pieces, FOR a guy they had and let go of.

Yes, he picked one of the few teams that had a worse OLine than the Cowboys last year.

A washed up, back-up Orton for a starting OL....

This board needs medical attention.

But I read on this board that both those guys could come in and play from day one. how could they possibly be 3rd string?

That probably was not a lie, especially if we are talking the past couple of seasons.

The bears ran the football twice as good as Dallas. Please explain what you mean braveheart? At least they could run block. Our line could do neither last year.
