Potential pass rush help

I'd think Hughes would be pretty appealing to Rex Ryan as an OLB. The one who is probably PO'd is Mario Williams. Aside from the money, he was pretty explicit on his desire to get out of a 3-4 defense iirc.

Sadly for Mario he is stuck with the Bills for the near future.

I was looking at Walter football. How do you guys feel about Pernell McPhee ?

I like the idea. I've mention him before. He plays both as a 3-4 OLB and 3-4 DE which is a rare combination. A 4-3 defensive end is right in the middle of those 2 positions. He is 280 so he a perfect fit as a 4-3 DE size wise.

I actually heard that Nick Farley has slimmed down in size to around 290. That picture is probably an old one which should him overweight.

When I watch Farley at Auburn, I thought he was going to be a star.

I also thought he was pretty good. On the Lions board they said that he was outplaying Suh and that if Suh walked he could be a viable replacement. IN training camp they said he was their best dlinemen because he lost a ton of weight and looked quicker than before. I really think he would be worth a look. Getting Suh here is probably a pipe dream but not Farley.

I don't think Melton is coming back. If we are going to bring in another DT, I don't think Melton is the guy. He would cost way to much to keep him. Everybody would love to have Suh (including me) but he might be way over the cap as well. The guy nobody is talking about is Nick Fairley. He's coming off injury and he's an FA this year as well. He is a very interesting DT and he would fit Marinelli's scheme well.

If we could get him on the cheap then good. Other than that I dont like how he miss so many games in his career.

Why would Melton reduce his contract? He has an option for 9 Million if we keep him. No, I don't think that's going to happen and even if he did, what would he reduce it to, 5 Million? He hasn't produce enough to even pay him that IMO. I like the guy, I'm a huge Texas fan but I don't see it.

Of course we are not going to pick up his option. He has given us enough room to bring his salary down.

We got two guys, Mincy and Dlaw at the moment. The question is who will play behind them or who will play in front of Dlaw. I think Mincey finish strong this year.

I hope they find DE that will play in front them. A guy like Hardy would make Mincey/DLaw the #2 / #3 DEs which is the ideal place for them. In terms of McPhee I think he might be a little better than Mincey, which is OK if they can't get a top guy like Hardy or they could get both. ;)

Adrian Clayborn might be another interesting guy to targer. He was great when he was at Iowa (biased admittedly). Was expected to be great in the pros, and for a while looked like he was going to be then the injury bug struck, then he was good again... then the injury bug struck again. If we could pick him up cheap he might be a low risk high reward guy.

If Rod stays I doubt it will be a household name. He seems to know where some players are that are not at the top of salary list. And I think Jerry Gives Rod at least 3 bullets to use in the first 5 rounds of the draft this year.

Really? When did this happen?

When he started slow, played well then got injured again. Its like you see the potential but your not sure if its worth 9 mill. If he want to stat bring him back at a reduce rate.

Some of these posts are so hilarious. Tank #2 at RDE, and Mincey #3?

Not going to happen.

If we don't sign Murray we could potentially sign Jpp and hardy . Hardy will be cheap because of his legal issues . But could you imagine that DE combo ?

I prefer we stay with the no-name we-fence….Bring RKG's who play and perform every Sunday

Derrick Shelby, I'm told by my dolphins friend would be a good DE pick up. Has some arrest issues tho...

I don't think they will go after any big names. They will probably look for other Jeremy Mincey-types in free agency.

I don't think so this year . We're close !!!! Need a dominant dude and we are right there !

They have something up their sleeve Stephan jones was interviewed and said priority #1 is too get a dominant pass rusher , he sounded highly confident about something like he's all in .

A healthy Lawrence may help a lot in the pass rush. It'll be interesting to see just how good he is for a full season(hopefully) We need a DT that can make an impact most of all. Nothing against the couple guys we have there. But they are pretty much all just serviceable.

Hardy probably isnt going anywhere and JPP is over rated. We need to find some quality players who we dont have to over pay for. Rather see them add 3 solid players then one potential stud who you have to pay extra for his name.
