If Dallas if going to pay Dak $39.5 million it has to be for more than 4 years. In fact, it should be more than 5 years.
Quality of life,lol...him and his family are already set for life on just what he made on the tag. What PPF may not have taken into account was on July 15th the final day to sign a player on the tag to a long term contract in the final hour or so Prescott was doing his own negotiating and they agreed on 35 mil a year but couldn't get the length and guaranteed amount worked out. Now there is another thing PPF may not have considered. Prescott grew up being a Cowboys fan and his dream was to someday play for the Cowboys. He's also smart enough to know that the extra couple of mil a year will not drastically change the quality of life he will have if he signs a contract at or close to the amount per year that he already agreed to. My guess based on all of the things that have been said about his character that he will be more agreeable that many that think that he'll hold out for every penny he can get. That was what Todd France did and that got him fired from CCA.

I am on record stating that I would open negotiations with a firm 200 million over 5 years and not budge from that. Start the cap hit off at something palatable, write a huge (75 million?) bonus check then escalate the cap hit to like 45 or 50 by the end of the deal and be done with it.
I completely understand your thinking, and I would probably go along with it depending on the structure of the deal. But if Dak is the franchise QB, then lock him up for the rest of his career. I don't want this to become a problem again in 5 years. However, it seems like Dak and his agent are set on a 4 year deal so they can up the ante in 4 years. I am put off by that.
At this point, I'm tempted to just give him a 6-10 year very high offer and let him know that this is it.I'm with you 100% there. If I thought I could get him to sign a 10 year deal I would absolutely roll that out there.. I'm just trying to be reasonable given that a friggin 5 year deal was deemed too long less than 7 months ago. 10 years.. 500 million.. 100 million signing bonus.. Boom! First year cap hit would be like 12-15 mil.. freeing up 20+ million in cap space to make moves. Yeah in 2031 his salary might balloon to like 60 million.. Who cares? It will be an absolute bargain by then. And if the front office doesn't waste that extra cap space on useless sots like Poe or Griffen we should have 2-3 more Lombardis to soothe the pain..
Watson just got this same deal. They are basically the same player with the same intangibles and nearly identical accomplishments.Man I love dak but 39mil a year? That just seems too much
That sounds about right but I'm guessing the APY will be closer to $38.5M but that's pulling strings. One thing I'm sure of, his APY floor is $37.7M ( amount of 2nd tag )

1. QB DAK PRESCOTT
The prize of the free agent market, Prescott went down with an unfortunate injury after just four-plus games in 2020. With four full seasons under his belt, Prescott has finished in the top 10 of PFF grades twice while ranking closer to 20th in the other two seasons. However, Prescott’s 85.2 PFF grade this season would’ve been a career-best, and his 2019 and 2020 work is the most productive of his career.
From a macro view, Prescott’s play dipped as his supporting cast took a step back, but a revamped receiving corps has had Dallas’ offense moving the ball efficiently with Prescott at the helm. With solid accuracy, decision-making and mobility, he has proven capable of putting up high-end production, and he appeared on his way to establishing himself as an annual “top-eight” quarterback prior to his injury.
Contract Analysis: A second franchise tag would be valued at $37.7 million for Prescott, so the two sides finally agree to a long-term extension just above that on an annual basis.
Prediction: Cowboys sign Prescott for four years, $158 million ($39.5M APY): $115M total guaranteed, $75 million fully guaranteed at signing.

Then his valuation next year will be even higher. He will get tagged again
Contract Dak debates continue during conference championship week.
The reason every site offers his valuation at 4 years is because that is the industry standard. If Dallas if going to pay Dak $39.5 million it has to be for more than 4 years. In fact, it should be more than 5 years.
They've already agreed with broadcast deals of over 100Billion.Many of you will think I'm absolutely crazy here, but I'm not 100% sure the teams will see increased profits in 2022. If viewership continues to drop, the whole industry may be in for a shock. Say / think what you will, but we've entered crazy times and I'm not sure we'll ever see normal again.
