FEATURED *** Practice Squad Players ***

If that's true, he should have been cut.
The Cowboys aren't cutting Steele. I get you clearly don't like him. The Cowboy do or they would have moved on. Additionally, have you considered the salary cap implication of cutting him?

Shotty said Jadon most likely will not be coming back on his press conference, neither is Mafah

With Demercado headed to the 53 they will probably try to sign Izzy Abanakanda to the PS. That would give them four RBs plus Luepke.

I'm starting to think Steele may be gone...
It’s nearly impossible. Cutting him would result in $34m in dead cap.

We would actually have to cut other players just to cut Steele

They also simply do not have anyone better right now. I've been looking at our drafted OL since the early 2000s and have to give Steele credit for not only making the team as a UDFA but become a starter in this league. There's been a whole bunch of failure for our team alone. The only successes we've had since 2007 on the third-day of the draft are Doug Free and Tyler Biadasz. I think we've probably done better with UDFAs than the draft (Ronald Leary, La'el Collins, Steele).

That is not at all what he said. He said they weren't sure. "Most likely", your words, and "weren't sure" Shotty's words is a big difference.

So we're stuck with him.

If Jones takes the starting spot Steele becomes the most expensive swing tackle in history.

And I would have kept him over Cornelius. Now, I don't know how much of a difference that would have made since they both are probably just backups. But I think we stood a better chance of getting Cornelius to the PS.

Yes, though I think 2027 might be a more feasible cut or trade period for a J1 cut. I think, either way, if he's not cutting it (no pun intended), we have an option behind him.

It is important to note that his base salary is $8 million next year, so if Jones did outplay him and take his spot as the starter, then despite Steele's dead cap being more than the cost to keep him, they still save that $8 million in salary.

Emergency Quarterback Restriction
  • The NFL's emergency QB rule does not apply to players who are call-ups. To be the emergency QB, the player must have an actual spot on the active 53-man roster.
Pardon my ignorance...but how does that quailify as some "emergency QB rule"...if he has to be on 53?

Seems like just regular roster to me.

Exactly, and there is a chance we could make him a J1 trade potentially. It wouldn't be a high pick, of course, but we could get something that way.
