Practice Squad Question

When Lattimore stepped out of bounds a half a yard short of the 1st down marker against Minnesota, it probably sealed his fate.

Yep saw that and also on Hard Knocks, you can see the coaches saying to punch it up in there while he's running the ball. A reference to him dancing/hesitating instead of cut and go.

There has to be a decision period when another team wants to activate your squad player.

It's kind of like a contingent contract when buying property. If another buyer wants the property you have a cont. contract on, then you have a 72 hour window to close the deal or you lose the property.

I kind of remember something of this nature for squad players.

Its strictly up to the player(he's a free agent), if he wants to give his team the heads up that another team wants to sign him off the PS then he can, but he doesn't have to and can sign with the other team (on the 53 man roster) whenever he wants to.

I don't think they get paid for every week in the year. Only weeks that there are games. If the team only plays 16 games that is $82,200

I don't know how playoff or preseason is paid.

My bad guys, I was mistaken about the waiting period between being taken for a practice squad and added to an active roster.

See below:

Section 2. Signing With Other Clubs:​

(a) Any player under contract to a Club as a practice squad player shall be completely free to negotiate and sign a Player Contract with any Club at any time during the League Year, to serve as a player on any Club’s Active or Inactive List, and any Club is completely free to negotiate and sign such a Player Contract​

with such player, without penalty or restriction, including, but not limited to, Draft Choice Compensation between Clubs or First Refusal Rights of any kind, or any signing period, except that such player shall not be permitted to sign a Player Contract with another Club to serve as a practice squad player while under contract as a practice squad player.​

(b) Notwithstanding Subsection (a) above, a practice squad player may not sign an NFL Player Contract with his Club’s next opponent later than 4:00 p.m., New York time, on the sixth day preceding the game (except in bye weeks, when the prohibition commences on the tenth day preceding the game).​
