Remember this moment for next year when your hair is on fire about "OMG, if we cut him, the league is gonna snap him up in an instant!"

Guys on the bubble of *our* roster are worth *even less* to other teams who didn't get them in their camps.

I don't have any stats to back this up, but I would speculate that most cut players during the 53 cut down that get picked up by other teams is primarily from teams that scrimmaged or played each other in preseason where the other team had an opportunity to really see the player.

I can't say I blame Phillips. Gets signed, barely makes it through OTAs, gets cut for a spare fullback, comes back, then balls out in the games.

Then the Cowboys make more of an attempt to keep Quiero, who did not play a down of football in the preseason. I would go to the Raiders too.

The purpose of the PS is two fold. Some of it is developmental, but a good chunk of it is nothing of the kind. It is not always about getting that player called up to your 53.

A lot of people seem to think it serves primarily as a developmental squad. That is not exactly the case. Sometimes you keep talent there because you know them the best, their strengths and their limitations. The intent is not always to groom them for live game action. Perhaps this a player who can tackle well but can't cover, they can serve as a shadow piece for a similar player on an opponent. Players like Showers stick around because they are good athletes who can simulate opponent skill sets that Dallas may not have among their reserves.

Well, you do need an extra tackle to get through practices when you rest Tyron Smith every other day so his back doesn't explode.

They can still put Phillips on the 53 if they want to do it.

I doubt if they do, but he is not protected by being on the Raider's practice squad.
