Practice Squad

Benford again? Really? Like to see em go in a different direction.

This is Benford’s third go-around on the Cowboys’ practice squad. He was signed undrafted by Dallas out of Tennessee Tech, and he spent the 2012 and 2013 seasons on the practice squad. He was released from the team’s 75-man roster earlier this week in favor of defensive back Jemea Thomas.

He probably is being seen as a quasi-veteran on replacements.

I think Mitchell is still salvageable,he just needs to get rid of his bad habit of grabbing.

Not to beat a dead horse, but Parcells always said that a guy grabs when he's been beat.

I like the kid, but this league just might be too fast for him.

Same.. I am not understanding Benford over Newsome.

Newsome's agent may be negotiating with other teams, if that's the case the Cowboys could have signed Benford as a placeholder. Then they would cut Benford as soon as Newsome officially signs. That's my hope anyway.

the practice squad has seven players now. I think that with the other three spots we need a tight end, safety and a wr who can return kicks.

They still have to cut some guys so that could be the spots they are holding.

I initially thought the same thing.

I didn't even want to take Tim Benford to training camp again this season.

He isn't 53 material.

And I, like most fans, want to see players signed to the Practice Squad who have developmental upside.

But, as the name implies, this group of players exists to help their clubs facilitate practice.

Benford has undoubtedly made a positive impression on the coaching staff with his work as a scout team receiver simulating that week's opponent.

Benford, Newsome and Byrd? Aren't they really all the same player?

I don't think Newsome is eligible for the PS.

Yeah, I think I finally got it figured out. He has 3 years of practice squad already, the limit.

2011 Jags 2 gm started on the roster, cut, Jags practice squad, cut, Stealers practice squad, cut, Chiefs practice squad

2012 Chiefs practice squad, Chiefs 6 gms 2 starts

2013 cut, Cowboys practice squad

JMO but that had more to do with the refs overcalling that. It was a leaguewide problem all preseason. I understand they want to make that penality a point of emphasis. But it was overkill.

A great point. Some of these guys are here for their effort and how they help other guys prep. That PS may develop coaching talent too

i just watched the replay of the broncos game..

i thought minter did enough to make the practice squad.

is he eligible?
