FRISCO, Texas – Wide receiver Dez Bryant and defensive tackle Tyrone Crawford will participate in individual drills at practice Sunday after sitting out the Cowboys’ third preseason game with a concussion.

“I think they’re having a test of some sort later today or tomorrow morning,” Garrett said. “But they’ll do individuals and we’ll keep them out of the team work.”

Quarterback Tony Romo (back) was not at practice during the open media portion after the team announced he suffered a fractured bone in his back Thursday against the Seattle Seahawks. The Cowboys have not set an official timetable for the injury, though they expect him to return at some point this season and haven’t ruled him out for the Sept. 11 season opener.

Elsewhere on the roster:Read

  • Cornerback Orlando Scandrick did not play against the Seahawks after experiencing a little groin soreness a week ago, coming off his first game appearance since tearing his ACL and MCL in last year’s training camp. Scandrick said he expects to be ready for the season opener barring a setback, and he was dressed for practice Sunday, though it’s unknown how much work he might do.
  • Linebacker Andrew Gachkar (thumb) was dressed for practice after missing all three preseason games since undergoing thumb surgery in early August.
  • Wide receiver Terrance Williams also was dressed for practice after having his hand X-rayed during Thursday’s game. X-rays were negative.
  • Among the players who didn’t appear to be practicing included safety J.J. Wilcox, who was shaken up in the Seattle game; guard Ronald Leary(groin); and defensive end Charles Tapper (back); linebacker James Morris; fullback Rod Smith (infection); and linebacker Mark Nzeocha (Achilles).
  • Continuing to be out of practice are quarterback Kellen Moore (fibula); tight end James Hanna (knee; Active/PUP), running back Darren McFadden(elbow; Active/NFI) and linebacker Jaylon Smith (knee; Active/NFI). Linebacker Rolando McClain and defensive end Randy Gregory remain on the Reserve/Did Not Report list.

Why is it funny?
It's not funny that he has a broken bone in his back, but it's funny that they say they haven't ruled him out for the opener, when virtually everyone is saying he needs at least 6 weeks to heal.

By some accounts, it is a crack and not a complete break. I do agree that the chances of him starting are next to zero, but I don't think it is out of the realm of possibility for him to come back sooner than projected by the talking heads.

From what I've heard, it's the front of the spine, which I believe makes it more important that it heals completely....admittedly not positive about that.

I still feel someone is trolling with T. Williams getting xrays on his hands....

:lmao:

I mean, yeah. You can't make the guy play if he was sore a week ago. This isn't some third world country.

If I'm making the call it's vet days all around.

I'll believe he is out when the Cowboys say he is.

Romo was ready to go back in vs Seattle..

He won't have to play for 2 weeks.

Garrett has said he has played with a broken bone in his back before.

Thanks for the update. Good to know we still have a team and are getting ready for the season.

Terence Williams X-rays were negative. Negative as in there is no broken bones or negative in he doesn't have hands?
Actually all joking aside that is good news, I saw enough dropped passes from Streets and Whitehead during the preseason to last a lifetime.

You heard it here first. This is the year of the Baby Hands!!!!!!!!

It's getting bizarre that there are no updates on Tapper. People here got on Broaddus for talking about this being more than just a run of the mill back injury.

He might be right.

No updates on Irving either. He was on track to start.

Little bummed about Tapper.

He's a big, athletic dude with some talent, but he needed reps especially coming out of that ridiculous frog position he was playing at OU last year.

Yeah the back thing is lingering isn't it?

Immature.:huh::facepalm:

Romo's not playing. What's really funny is that some might be immature enough to think he is playing...then to fake an intellectual act that they have an issue about a post/poster stating realism.... well that's just ignorant.
