So you don't expect that the storm surge would make it to you?
Key was correct that you should get the west side of the storm, meaning you should have the wind blowing from shore out to sea. It is the east side that adds to the surge with onshore winds.
You should still see some storm surge, but with the eye staying offshore and you on the west side, it shouldn't be too much (I would guess).
If you are out of the way of the surge, then it is the wind you have to worry about and really, that boils down to the trees. We had several trees come down through our house (with us in it), and for us, that was the big problem.
The winds will have to get pretty bad for that to start happening though.
